And the Bassline Warfare winner is…

Astral Phoenix for the win! For those who don’t yet know, Astral Phoenix is the new incarnation of Victoria’s Ryan Swinney – who earned his spot in the finals of Bassline Warfare under his previous artist name – Agent Orange.

As we’ve moved through the Bassline Warfare competition, it was always hard to know who would come out on top. The competition was designed to be strictly audience driven, which has it’s pluses – and minuses! On the PLUS side, the community really gets to express who they want to see play – and also gets to decide who played the best! They ‘vote’ strictly by applause after each artist’s set, and I’m sure their voting reflects appreciation for a variety of reasons – the songs the chose, the flow of their set, their stage presence, and so on! The MINUS is that there’s no technical aspect of voting really, AND in theory whoever has the most friends in the audience COULD win the whole competition!

Despite these circumstances, when we ended up with our 6 Finalists we knew it was going to be an amazing night of music – and when the audience decided who the FINAL 3 were, it was down to Astral Phoenix, Kehx & Tantric Decks! Now.. strictly from an hours-on-the-decks & overall experience sort of scenario.. if you were a betting man.. you’d have to think Tantric Decks is going to take this. And – it WAS close. But Ryan (Astral Phoenix) had other plans.. including WINNING. His sets were fast & furious, masterfully changing tempos and packed full of energetic music that had the dance floor JUMPING. Couple that with an enthusiastic stage presence and a good crowd of fans in the room and KABOOM! You are the man.
