Bassline Warfare Results & Free Mix!

We have two things to share with you! First, ROUND 1 of Whoa Grenade!‘s BASSLINE WARFARE series is complete and what a crazy night! First off, we learned that the structure of the night, with the community selecting the artists and with artists picking their own partners makes for some CRAZY matchups that would just never happen. For our debut night the two artists who were selected by the community were D-MoA and Dew Drop, who led the charge with the most amount of votes! Dew Drop picked Rowan as his partner, who battled D-Moa’s partner Kehx for the opening battle. Rowan vs Kehx? Definitely a rare alignment, and it was surprisingly awesome! Rowan dropped some stuff that was so hard I had to imagine he had to dust off some mp3s that might not get too much airtime from him, and Kehx brought his heavy electro and mashups and used his crowd-hyping to really drive them nuts! When Wyatt & Devon did the judging, it was SUPER close – and Kehx just edged Rowan out to take the first battle. Big ups to both contenders.

Towards the end of the opening battle we hosted an epic demonstration by our big-kicking friends at Caju Capoiera – who took over the dance floor for another no-contact all-amazing ‘battle’ (or game, as they call it). It was a super fun addition to the night and we’ll be pleased to show off some video we captured at a future date!

Whoa Grenade! played a monster two hour set which really let people settle into the dance vibes, and then D-MoA & Dew Drop stepped up! Another unexpected battle really, doubly so given that D-MoA was down from Nanaimo and Dew Drop from the Gulf Islands! Nonetheless, they had no problem connecting with the Victoria audience and getting the place bumping. The format of 30min each, the 20min each, then 10min each really kept everyone on their toes, and gave each artist ample opportunity to take in and RESPOND to the hits being delivered by their opponent 🙂 All in great fun and with spirits high, it was again a close contest and D-MoA ultimately edged it out.

We foresee making some changes to both the voting system as well as the format – so stay tuned as we’ll be publishing next month’s show very soon. Meanwhile, we are VERY excited to share with you some fresh new music! About a week before the show we pulled together some of the artists who were leading the nominations at the time, and we put together a sweet 1 hour BASSLINE WARFARE promo set – from us to you! Phrase played the first 20min, then straight into Kehx, then over to Whoa Grenade for the close! Huge love to all the dudes for bringing this gift together – and you can watch for some video from this recording session coming at you sometime soon as well! Which leaves the question… which of the 20min micro sets is your favorite??
