Art of the Week: Totemical – Diversity

“Justin Guse (Totemical) continues to grow in the northcoast of North America in Vancouver, BC.Utilizing photo manipulation tools since the age of 12, Justin has found himself blurring the lines between the material and the virtual as well as the scientific and the spiritual. His precision offers viewers of his work insight into the depth and complexity of nature, but his vision carries us beyond known realms.” ~ Rootwired.com ( 2011 )

Art of the Week: Faery – Fall Colours

Victoria newcomer Sierra Choquette, the talent behind Faery Essences, has an awful lot of artistic magic! Captured here in a piece she created when first moving to BC, Sierra has hit the ground running in the Sunset community contributing art, decor, dance performance, silent auction donations and now – as part of the Sunset Room crew! For those who know her, her gifts to the community have been obvious, and for those who don’t – you’ll want to make her acquaintance soon as possible!

Need a dose of inspiration? Check her offering via her Facebook page: Alternative Healing / Akashic Records Consultations / Aromatherepy / Card Readings / Feng Shui Consultations / Reflexology / Reiki / Faery Work / Angel Work / Space Clearing / Creative Adventures / Costume & Wig Design / Painting / Singer/Songwriter / Dance Performances. In the short time she has been here I have seen her bring MUCH of this creative magic to bear in her participation in our culture, so it is with gratitude that we share this art piece with you!

She has written up the following about the piece:

Approx 18 Hours | Acrylic & Mixed Medium (Leaves, Ink)
Inspired by the amazing fall colors that I witnessed upon moving to Victoria from Calgary. This was the only way I could do it justice.

“It was almost that time of year again.
To go down the red dirt road,
visiting family and friends.
You could never help but wonder,
what colors would this fall provide?
The Maples, red and yellow hues.
Oaks, deep browns amongst sky blues.
Countless other trees and leaves beyond name,
The beautiful ever-changeing canvas of nature,
a wonderful treat every year.
Sometimes when we traveled down that road,
I wished the end would never appear. ”

Art of the Week: Mugwort – Evolvefest

This beautiful new piece by Mugwort was inspired by the upcoming EvolveFest – an annual four-day Festival of Yoga, Music and Art Culture held in New York. Of this piece, Mugwort offers “Nothing in the world is more elastic and yielding than water; yet it is preeminent to dissolve things rigid and resistant; there is nothing which can match it.”

‘There was something undefined and complete, coming into
existence before Heaven and Earth. How still it was and formless,
standing alone, and undergoing no change, reaching everywhere and in
no danger of being exhausted It may be regarded as the Mother of all things’.

Art of the Week: Quanyin by Mugwort

We are very excited to be building some new projects with Isaac Mills, a digital painter and designer from the east coast of Canada. For those who saw the stunning GOVINDA poster he put together, or any one of hundreds of other music community projects he has been involved in, you can already attest to his talent & vision. Isaac chose the moniker “Mugwort’ to embody his intention as an artist. Mugwort artemisia is a sacred tool used by ancients for lucid dreaming and astral projection, and much of his art blossoms from scattered sensory recollections of his own dreams. He seeks to strengthen the flow between the gateway of the dreaming and waking worlds, to open imaginal portals for the viewers and to guide them to an internal temple of inspiration and awakening.

Much of his work is thematically centred around a paradigm shift that he sees happening around him in the world, and portrays archetypal forces, ancestral depths, evolution and shamanic symbolism. Visually synthesizing windows into both the bygone industrial era and a multitude of potential future realities, he anticipates the brink of time. His art has been displayed at galleries and festivals in Canada, the US and Europe. Stay tuned for more Sunset Labs collaborations with Isaac – we are excited to work with and co-create with this visionary artist and super swell dude!
