Bass Coast Moves to Merritt

We would like to officially announce that our fifth Bass Coast will take place on August 2-5th, 2013 in the Nicola Valley, BC. The decision to move to a new location was done only after much thought, care and deliberation. We know that ultimately Bass Coast is rooted in the people, the music, the art, and the family we have all become, and while the location in the Squamish Valley was both beautiful and close to home, it became obvious to us this year that its logistical challenges could put the future of the festival at risk. We work very hard to make improvements based on the honest feedback we get about your overall experience, our growing vision, and the mandatory steps needed to support our growth. It’s extremely important to us to continually present our family with the best experience possible and at this point, it means a big decision. We strongly feel that this new location has a promising future for us. It will be such a pleasure for us to offer comfortable drive-up camping for everyone on site, a warm and gentle river for swimming, a MUCH lower chance of rain and beautiful extended sunsets unique to this valley.

Bass Coast Presents:
The Active Mountain Resort, Nicola Valley, BC
“An extra hour in the car, half the likelihood of rain.”

Our new location is 2.5 hours drive from downtown Vancouver and is nestled in a lovely, high mountain valley with a warm river meandering through site.
- River front campsites, shady tree camping, & open areas for large groups.
- Space for everyone to camp with their car or RV.
- 2 Entrance gates for much faster entrance and exit times
- Warmer average temperatures with little chance of rain
- A gentle river that flows through the site with natural beaches, ideal for swimming,
- A “big sky” feel with panoramic hills and extended sunsets
- Ample area to support large-scale art installations – huge-scale possibilities
- Clean drinking water from the well
- The town of Merritt, 10 minutes away, has been very welcoming and supportive of us.

THE NEW SITE IS ONLY 2.5 HOURS DRIVE FROM VANCOUVER
(Previously home to the Merritt Mountain Music Festival)
The Bass Coast vision works perfectly in this location. You can expect the same community feeling and intimate vibe. You can expect the same focus on creative stage design, art installations, and music programming. You can also expect the same daytime beach party and night-time immersive experience. Expect the same Bass Coast style.

Festival Spotlight: Bass Coast

Bass Coast Festival is easily my favorite festival that I’ve never been to. When it first came to life and introduced itself to the world, it was just so obvious there was something different about it, and many friends noticed this too.

There’s lots of reasons it might show up this way – there’s an amazing team full of powerful west coast women at the helm.. there’s the breathtaking Squamish Valley waterfront location.. there’s a super juicy music lineup second to none for a festival of its size.. there’s a huge roster of awesome conversations & workshops built into the flow.. it would be easy to see how these ingredients might come together to create something really magical. Yet, the ingredients themselves really fall short of explaining how this particular event stands apart. I think the answer lies in the vision that Bass Coast has set for itself, which they share as follows:

To contemplate, to educate, to innovate and to CREATE. This is our festival. This is our coast. This is our Culture. Bass Coast’s primary vision is to support the local electronic underground arts community on the west coast of BC by providing an event with international recognition. We are very proud to be BCer’s with the name BASS COAST having the initials of the land and environment we are deeply connected to. The love of Bass electronic music and creative innovation in all forms is at the core of the experience we are passionate about providing.
The arts culture that surrounds the music is a rich creative community of artists, scientists, designers, yogi’s, environmentalists, freedom fighters, business minds, intellectuals, partiers, poets and dancers. We believe that the Bass Coast community is a supportive environment where we hope to inspire each participant to find deeper layers of themselves. Bass Coast has no corporate sponsorship. Our stages have been built from re-claimed, re-used and recycled materials every year – as are almost all the items you’ll discover at Bass Coast.
To contemplate, to educate, to innovate and to CREATE. This is our festival. This is our coast. This is our Culture.

Once again this year I’m not going to make it – but many people who plan better than I do will be there to take it all in – and to those I say congratulations, it is without exception my friends have come back rubbing my nose in their most amazing Bass Coast adventures.
