WHAT A NIGHT!! To have the pleasure of seeing David Starfire OR Govinda play a show is a unique and dance-frenzied treat. But to see them BOTH on the same bill in an intimate space like Sunset? WHOA. We knew they wouldn’t hold anything back – and neither did we! We brought in a complete additional sound system; flipped the whole room’s orientation and had everyone play from the new live stages; added superstar Kytami to the lineup.. and sold out the show of course. We might be hard pressed to top that one anytime soon… unless of course Lynx, Tarran the Tailor & Buckman Coe go on tour together anytime soon. ;)

Dub Kirtan All Stars’ brand new Subsonic Devotion EP features 3 tracks produced by David Starfire (who joins us in Victoria with Govinda on April 12, 2013) and FreQ Nasty featuring the powerful and compelling vocals of 2 of the Kirtan scene’s most talented singers – Chaytanya and Arjun Baba. ‘Radhe Govinda’ conjures up images of a Dubstep club in the heart of Mumbai with Chatanya bestowing the spacious track with an emotive invocation of the Divine over heavy beats and bass. On ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ Arjun Baba embodies the ‘take no prisoners’ spirit of Hindu deity Shiva delivering a fiery and unrestrained vocal over the top of razor sharp beats and a distorted 303 acid line.
The EP closes with the rapturous voice of Chaytanya on a delicate and moving rendition of ‘Kunja Bihari’. Originally recorded as a shiver-inducing acoustic Bhajan it is augmented here by sparse atmospheric dubs, sweet 70′s funk, and a weighty bottom end sub. After a 2 year gestation period spent developing a full force live band we are ridiculously pleased to offer you the Subsonic Devotion EP. Enjoy!

David Starfire has long been a huge fan of performing in BC. His shows with Sunset Labs, at Shambhala and other BC & coastal festivals are always mind blowing (check this fun video I shot of him performing at Shambhala 2011!). We of course, have resultantly become huge fans of David! And next week David Starfire’s new album ASCEND comes out and we can tell you – it is going to be HUGE!! Don’t take OUR word for it.. here’s what David has to say on the matter!:
Hey folks my new album “Ascend” will be released on Feb 19th 2013 on Six Degrees records! I took some time to write and produce the songs, I’m really proud of how they turned out and I’m excited to share it with the world. The vibe of album will be an eclectic mix of bhangra, African, Arabic, dub reggae, dubstep, moombahcore, trap and other genres produced in “Starfire” fashion. I collaborated with amazing people like Afrika Bambaataa, Cheb i Sabbah, Natacha Atlas, Desert Dwellers, Juakali and other amazing artists. The single is “House of Bhangra” and it’s a collaboration with Afrika Bambaataa and Desert Dwellers and will be a giveaway when the album is released. The album will be available on Beatport, iTunes, Amazon and also will be available in a CD digipak! Our Cosmic Caravan night last weekend was nothing short of AWE INSPIRING. So much talent, so many contributors, sooooo much fun. As the vendors started to settle into their spaces and the decor started to come together, the energy was rising early and the buzz was contagious.. the setup team alternating between the traditional pre-show-organizational-melee and a euphoric glee that likely stemmed from premonition. For clearly, we were tapped into what would quickly become the most epic of nights!
As a small token for those who couldn’t attend in person, and as a great warm fuzzy for those who did, we offer this beautiful array of pics courtesy of Evan Boyd Photography! Stay tuned for lots more pics & videos to follow.

On Friday April 20th two of North America’s most talented producers hit town for our Cosmic Caravan show at Victoria Event Center. There is a lot these two have in common! They are both successful, full time musicians & producers. They both have tracks that frequent the top 100 of their respective charts. They share many of the same big stages at big festivals throughout North America and beyond!
There is something else they have in common, and if you are an aspiring music producer, prick your ears. On Saturday April 21st these two cats will sit down for 2 hours with a limited number of local producers and answer your questions on music production & making it in the business!
They have together come up with a unique and highly personal format for this workshop – once registered, each guest will be able to submit 3 questions that they have for David & Adham. The duo will group the questions into particular themes, and then respond directly to what it is that you most want to know!
Additionally – each attendee can submit 1 track that they are working on, and our guest intructors will select a couple of the tracks to discuss in the workshop and offer new ideas & feedback for your consideration.

David Starfire is a producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. His production style is eclectic, fusing world music with dance, hip hop and everything in-between. David is signed with the internationally known label Six Degrees Records, home to artists such as The Orb, Bebel Gilberto, Cheb i Sabbah, Karsh Kale, Midival Punditz, Michael Franti, Natacha Atlas, DJ Spooky and many others. He’s released two records, “Bollyhood Bass” in 2010 and “Bombay Beatz” in 2007. His tunes have been played on BBC, NPR, National Geographic, XM radio and various stations around the world. His signature sound landed him several DJ gigs at large scale international festivals all over the world such as Winter Music Conference, Coachella, Love Parade, the Forum, Musikmesse, Electric Picnic, Shambhala, Harmony, Burning Man, Lightning in a Bottle, Lovevolution and Earthdance. He has shared the stage with all the top DJ’s such as Tiesto, Bassnectar and Skrillex.
