SUMMARY:Codes from the Old World
DESCRIPTION:Hidden in ancient stories are all kinds of secrets…\nabout how to thrive in a time of unraveling.\nHow do we work with such codes? How do we court them? In a time of strip-lit\, rational thinking\, how could we as modern people cultivate an etiquette of the uncanny? From his years living in a tent through to his life now\, UK mythologist Dr. Martin Shaw will weave personal experiences up through any number of stories from the very edge of the fire. \nNo evening on the Codes tour is quite the same as the last\, though each is sure to be electrifying. In the tradition of the old Celtic Seanchai\, Shaw works entirely in the moment\, with any number of tales he may produce from his crane-skin bag. It will be an uncommon gathering and filled with strange nutrients. \n  \nJOIN US FROM AROUND THE WORLD\nIN PERSON TICKETS ARE NOW SOLD OUT – but we’ve got Stream of Consciousness delivering a beautiful high-definition multicamera livestream of the whole event. Join us from wherever you are in the world\, or even just from the comfort of your couch. \nLIVESTREAM DETAILS & TICKETS HERE \n  \nABOUT MARTIN SHAW\n\nDr. Martin Shaw is a celebrated international storyteller\, mythologist\, award-winning author\, and teacher. Dr. Shaw is widely regarded as one of the most exciting teachers of the mythic imagination. He is the author of seventeen books\, including the award-winning A Branch From The Lightning Tree\, Snowy Tower\, and Scatterlings: Getting Claimed in the Age of Amnesia. Director of the Westcountry School of Myth in the UK\, Shaw also devised and led the Oral Tradition course at Stanford University. His translations of Gaelic poetry and folklore (with Tony Hoagland) have been published in Orion Magazine\, Poetry International\, Kenyon Review\, Poetry Magazine\, and Mississippi Review. Current work includes The Nightingale and the Lion (a poetic rumination on the ecstasies\, secret traditions and love myths of the west)\, and Courting the Dawn: Poems of Lorca. The Irish Times call him “a Seanchai\, an interloper from the medieval\,” and Madeline Miller names him “a modern-day Bard.” \ndrmartinshaw.com \n  \nWHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID:\n“In a world that\, increasingly\, looks to set rigid boundaries around what is acceptable to think and feel\, Shaw’s work comes as relief\, like clear\, cold water from a rushing spring.”\n—The Sunday Times\, February 2023 \n“Martin Shaw’s work is so very beautiful. A new animal. His love of images is deep and contagious. In the passion of his search he makes up new words that seem as though we’ve always known them. His language is tasty and surprising. This elegant combination of very fresh\, free verse storytelling\, and a deep untangling of myth feels so alive. What will it do next?”\n—Coleman Barks\, author of The Essential Rumi \n“I can still remember the first time I heard Martin Shaw tell a story. The tale that emerged was like a living thing\, bounding around\, throwing itself at all of us there listening. I had never heard anything like it before. Martin is a one-off\, his work is urgent and necessary.”\n—Paul Kingsnorth\, author of The Wake \n“Eloquent and elegant\, Shaw offers an irresistible invitation into realms that hold the wisdom of\, not only survival\, but expanding into one’s sense of purpose.”\n—Malidoma Somé\, author of Of Water and The Spirit \n“How I love the intelligent\, poetic\, and wild way of his voice.”\n—Meredith Little\, co-author of The Way of the Vision Quest \n“A true master. Martin Shaw is one of the very greatest storytellers we have.”\n—Robert Bly\, author of Iron John \n“Martin Shaw is a conjurer\, a thirteenth century troubadour dropped in our midst. He breathes into his characters a beating pulse\, agile speech and bedazzling wit. Catch him any way you can.”\n—Eric Utne\, founder of The Utne Reader \n  \nABOUT OUR HOST\nThe School of Mythopoetics is a growing community of mythopoetic scholars\, practicing the arts of story\, myth\, ritual and wonder. \nYou might ask – what is myth·o·po·et·ics?\nThe practice and lens of using story\, poetry\, and myth to wrangle meaning for oneself and our collective journey. It’s the reawakening of the mythic imagination in modern times. \nHumanity is undergoing a great initiation right now.\nUncertainty is the increasing measure of our days. \nThe control-oriented maps of meaning fail us here.\nThese dark hollows are the terrain of soul. \nTo find our way\, we must learn to speak the soul’s language\, the mythopoetics that arise of birdsong\, of thunderstorm\, of crossroad\, of metaphor and myth. \nYour initiation will require you to court once again these wild Gods.\nThis School is a container for a regenerative cultural movement. \nwww.schoolofmythopoetics.com

SUMMARY:Marketing for Hippies 101
DESCRIPTION:Marketing can feel good.\nThat’s the premise of this online workshop. \nSince 2001\, I have traveled around North America working with conscious entrepreneurs just like you. Some successful\, others struggling. And I’ve gathered quite the assortment of success stories and strategies right from the horses’ mouths. This workshop is my best distillation and collection of those practices and stories. \nMy name is Tad Hargrave and I want to invite you to come and join us for this day-long workshop\, my signature event that I call Marketing for Hippies 101. \n \nIn general\, here’s who this workshop is for:\nYou’re in the Healing Arts or a Holistic Practitioner? Perhaps you’re a Therapist\, Massage Therapist or Body-worker\, Yoga Instructor\, Herbalist\, Shamanic Practitioner\, Life-Coach\, Meditation Teacher etc. \nAt its heart\, this workshop is all about exploring the question:\nToo much marketing (even by savvy\, conscious entrepreneurs) creates either no response or seems “over-hyped” and triggers a “used car salesman” reaction. \n \nSo . . . \nIn broad strokes\, in this day-long\, content-rich workshop you’ll learn how to: \nsell more of your products and services (without selling your soul).\nattract more of the clients you want (without ever sacrificing your integrity or spending a fortune).\nmake sure your marketing gets a positive response and creates warm feelings of trust.\nBut specifically\, while mingling with like-minded peers\, you’ll learn: \nthe Three Core Foundations and Seven Elements of Your Platform that you need to attract more – and better – clients\, with absolutely zero budget.\nthe Three Roles Of Marketing that any piece of marketing you ever do must play.\nthe core reason why most marketing feels bad (and exactly how to make sure that your marketing avoids it).\nthe only three kinds of potential clients you will ever meet\, and the exact approach you need to take with each of them.\nhow to have your ideal client approaching you\, instead of you chasing them.\n \n  \nPRICE: $25 deposit\n+Pay What You Want at the End.\nWhat does this mean?\n  \nYou pay $25 to secure your spot. Why a deposit for a PWYC event you ask? Well\, over the years I’ve come to find that people take a commitment more seriously when they pay for it. So that’s why the deposit. You are welcome to consider this deposit part of your PWYC fee. \nAnd then you get to enjoy the workshop and\, at the very end\, you can pay me whatever you’d like to pay. \nIf even the $25 deposit is too much\, please let us know. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. \nIt’s an honest-to-goodness\, decide-at-the-end\, no funny business\, pay-what-you-can/want deal. \nOR: Pay 3 instalments of $67. If you’d like to pay the full market value of this workshop but want to spread those payments out\, choose the 3-pay option! You’ll be charged $67 now\, and then you’ll receive an invoice from my PayPal account for 2 more payments of $67 in each of the following two months. \nOR: Pay a flat $200 market value fee for the workshop upfront. If that feels good and convenient for you\, please choose this option. It’s something that’s been requested a number of times so I’m trying it out\, but either way is fine by me. \n  \nTICKETS HERE\n  \nWhat to Have Handy:\nPen and paper\, or a fresh document on your computer.\nYour fee: Please be prepared to send me your PWYC fee at the end of the workshop via e-transfer (if you’re in Canada) or via PayPal. \nA reminder about cell phones:\nPlease remember to put your phone on silent or even turn it right off. I encourage you to make the effort to really be present in the virtual room during the workshop. There will be a couple of breaks to check for updates if you need to! \nWhat does the day look like?\nThis day is mostly lecture format with some Q&A as you learn the core content of my approach to marketing. \n  \n*PLEASE NOTE: Time listed in Pacific Time*\n10:00am-1:30pm – workshop (fifteen minute break halfway through)\n1:30pm-2:30pm – lunch\n2:30pm-6:00pm – workshop (five minute break half way through) \n— \nSo\, that’s it. If you have any questions\, feel free to email us at admin@marketingforhippies.com otherwise I hope to see you there. \nStay Human\,\nTad Hargrave\nFounder\, marketingforhippies.com \nPS: BONUS! When you register for this workshop you’ll get a copy of my ebook How to Start\, which sells for $20 in my online shop. This book is a practical and refreshing\, seven-step workbook to use when marketing feels gross and awkward (you can do it all in one lazy\, rainy afternoon and you’ll use it for the rest of the life of your business). \nHow to Start is a tiny workbook about a little idea that could make a big difference in every piece of marketing you ever do from here on. Here’s the little idea: what if you made the heart of your marketing strategy about how your marketing feels to you and others? \n  \nAbout Tad Hargrave\n \nTad is a hippy who developed a knack for marketing (and then learned how to be a hippy again). Since 2001\, he has been touring his marketing workshops around Canada\, the USA and Europe\, bringing refreshing and unorthodox ideas to conscious entrepreneurs and green businesses\, helping them grow their businesses (without selling their souls). In short\, he teaches ‘marketing for hippies’ centred on the notion that marketing can feel good and work. \nTad did improv comedy semi-professionally for 25 years\, co-ran Edmonton’s progressive community building network TheLocalGood.ca\, founded streetcarshows.com and the Jams program of yesworld.org. He speaks Scottish Gaelic and helped to launch and co-facilitate www.novascotiagaelsjam.com. \nHe is from Edmonton\, Alberta (traditionally known\, in the language of the Cree\, as Amiskwaciy [Beaver Hill] and later Amiskwaciwaskihegan [Beaver Hill House]) and currently lives in Duncan\, BC. His ancestors come primarily from Scotland with some from Ukraine as well. He is drawn to conversations around culture-making\, politics\, history\, ancestry\, healing\, and how those all intersect. \nYou can learn more about Tad and his work at marketingforhippies.com \n  \nTICKETS HERE\n

SUMMARY:the Future of Children
DESCRIPTION:The Future of Children Rewirement Training\nWith Phil Moore\, Author of The Future of Children\nCo-founder of Upland Hills School & Ecological Awareness Centre \n  \nDETAILS & TICKETS HERE\n  \nA 3-Day Virtual Training for Parents\, Educators and Outliers\n*NOTE: This event is VIRTUAL ONLY – NO LIVE AUDIENCE \nBy the end of this 3-day live virtual training with Phil Moore (author of The Future of Children)\, you will have an expanded toolbox of ideas and initiatives that you can apply in your classroom\, family or community immediately\, which will provide the life skills and preparation for these children to confidently & skillfully navigate the world of the unknown. \n  \nThe Core Themes\nThe Future of Children Rewirement Training will focus on three essential themes that have been put into practice for 50+ years. All of the teachings will stem from these core themes: \nLISTENING: Learn & practice new ways to deeply listen to the children\, Earth & your internal guidance so you can better serve others.\nCONTEXT: Move from the ‘content education’ model by rewiring your world-view to become a comprehensive\, wholistic thinker.\nCOMMUNITY: Belong to a community and movement of co-hearts who are actively transforming education\, families and communities. \n  \nMeet Phil Moore\nIn a nutshell\, Phil Moore leads with his heart. He puts this extraordinary heart capacity to work by playing the infinite game. A game where there are no losers and winning means oneing.(from me to we). Where you play with the rules rather than by them. An infinite game player plays to leave an invisible legacy in the hearts and minds of others. This kind of open heart—willing to give and receive\, attracts allies and seeds possibilities. For his entire life as a teacher\, husband\, father\, Granda\, mentor\, writer and leader\, Phil has been an artist of possibilities. This artistry opens doors\, forges bonds\, spreads inspiration and astonishing learning happens for everyone in his orbit. \nLearn more about Phil and his amazing legacy here. \n  \nThe Current Education System is Obsolete\nThe children who are being born today deserve schools that nourish their unique gifts. Currently\, children are being fed a diet of toxic information\, in a factory-like setting that is diminishing their light\, while feeding their anxiety. Teachers are leaving the profession in large numbers because they know the current educational model is failing to nourish & nurture children into higher possibilities of being and becoming. \n  \nIntroducing a Love-Based Approach to Education\nWhen inspired and empowered teachers are given the ability to create innovative\, comprehensive curriculum\, based on passion\, play and place – children flourish. A Love-Based Education begins as soon as the child is seen\, heard\, honoured and cherished. Our initiatives have contributed to creating new kinds of human beings. People who love to cooperate\, collaborate\, contribute and communicate their love for the natural world and for life in general. \n  \nI take great joy in commending Phillip Moore and his Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center to you. SUMMARY:A Gathering of Stories
DESCRIPTION:  \nA Gathering of Stories: The Heart of the Feminine\nOver the past centuries\, much of our human societies have come under a system of domination\, developed and controlled by uninitiated men. Men who have not been guided through a rite of passage into proper adulthood\, where they recognize their place in the great dance of life. \nWithin this trance\, what are considered “masculine qualities” (rationality\, competition\, power) have come to be the most highly prized\, and rewarded. “Feminine qualities” such as collaboration\, emotional intelligence (EQ) and compassion have been diminished as less worthy\, and have denied the expression of different kinds of power and beauty that are potent medicine needed for these times. \nJuly 2021 weaved storytellers\, musicians and poets in response to the question: what power lies within the heart of the feminine? \nThe Experience\nGuided by co-hosts Pulxaneeks & Tonye Aganaba\, the day wove a tapestry of story\, punctuated by musical performances and spoken word artists. After each story\, the audience was invited to dive deeper with a shared conversation with the teller\, connecting around the themes and insights. \nWhat is a Gathering of Stories?\nA Gathering of Stories is a seasonal ceremony\, conducted over livestream\, bringing together renowned storytellers\, musicians and poets from around the world\, providing new insight and perspectives on the most vital themes of our time. \nEach day weaves a tapestry of story\, punctuated by musical performances and spoken word artists. After each story\, the audience are invited to dive deeper into a shared conversation with the teller\, connecting around the themes\, insights\, and characters that naturally spill forth from this old time magic.\n  \nAccess the Replay HERE!\nTERRITORIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT\n\nSunset Labs sits on the traditional\, ancestral\, unceded homelands of the Lekwungen people\, now also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We endeavour to honour this land\, its peoples and treaties by strengthening our relationship and responsibilities to them. We acknowledge and thank the Lekwungen people\, on whose land we live\, work\, create\, dance and play.\n

DESCRIPTION:The Mythic Masculine | Warrior Within | Uplift | MysterySchool.tv | The Rowe Center\nProudly Present…\nA Gathering of Stories – Theme: The Soul of Masculinity\nA Gathering of Stories is a two day storytelling festival\, conducted over livestream\, bringing together renowned storytellers\, musicians and poets from around the world\, providing new insight and perspectives for tending the soul of the masculine. \nEach day will weave a tapestry of story\, punctuated by musical performances and spoken word artists. After each story\, the audience will be invited to dive deeper into a conversation with the teller and fellow attendees\, connecting around the themes\, insights\, and characters that naturally spill forth from this old time magic. \nMany would say the Masculine has been ill for some time. When we speak of men\, or the inner Masculine within us all – many are struggling under violence\, depression and addiction\, or lost in toxic power games and perpetuating ecological collapse. \nIn the era of #metoo and the scales of social justice tipping toward a much needed reckoning\, there seem to be few pathways towards a Masculine that is powerful\, nurturing\, and connected. Perhaps we might look to the old stories for guidance\, to shine light anew on modern challenges and illuminate how we might yet become?\nThis inaugural Gathering of Stories is aimed at shining a beacon of possibility and magic\, at a time when the mythic imagination must play a vital role once again. \nThe gathering is hosted by Ian MacKenzie\, founder of The Mythic Masculine Podcast and Network.\n  \nGET TICKETS HERE\n  \nA Gathering of Stories – Theme: The Soul of Masculinity will be hosted at Sunset Labs and livestreamed by Stream of Consciousness. \nPlease note\, this is a VIRTUAL ONLY event\, there will be no in-person audience.

SUMMARY:REINFORCING COMMUNITIES
DESCRIPTION:The increased number of brain injuries resulting from overdoses is concerning. These individuals are often younger and may require a higher level of care. Communities need to be able to respond. \nPeople are able to do the work of healing when the community they live in is strong and can provide the services they need. In turn\, the more a person thrives\, so too\, will the community. \nThis event opens the conversation on what is needed to strenghten communities on all levels to address the intersections of mental health\, addictions\, and brain injury with the development of an integrated provincial service delivery plan which considers disparities between the quality\, options\, and accessibility of services and supports across the health authorities. \nPlease join us so your voice is heard! \nDr. John Higenbottam is a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist who has held senior clinical leadership positions in British Columbia including Vice President\, Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre\, Vice President\, BC Rehab and Vice President\, Riverview Hospital. \nJohn has also held several academic positions\, including Adjunct Associate Professor\, University of Victoria\, Associate Dean and Chair\, Psychology at Douglas College. He is currently Faculty Emeritus\, Douglas College and Clinical Professor\, Department of Psychiatry\, UBC. John is also Editor in Chief\, Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health which has become an important venue for Canadian mental health research. \nJohn is Chair\, Psychosocial Rehabilitation\, Réadaptation Psychosociale Canada (PSR/RPS Canada) and Chair of its BC Chapter. PSR Canada is Canada’s major organization promoting Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) practices as essential to recovery and mental health system reform. BC and served for two terms as Chair\, Canadian Alliance for Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH)\, Canada’s major alliance of 19 national mental health organizations. He is also a Director\, BC’s Community Action Initiative. \nJohn also served two terms as a member of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Service Systems Advisory Committee. While on this committee\, he co-led a major national study and report on mental health housing\, Turning the Key. \nJohn’s major clinical and research interests are in developing\, implementing and evaluating effective\, recovery oriented services for people with complex needs. \nJoin us to hear the concerns of Dr. Elizabeth Plant regarding overdose survival and brain injury. Dr. Plant’s current roles include the Cowichan District Addiction Medicine Consult Service (AMCS)\, AMCS Community\, outreach at the overdose prevention site\, and developing substance use supports for youth. She has completed her addiction medicine fellowship with the British Columbia Centre for Substance. \n\nABOUT THE HEADS TOGETHER THINK TANK SERIES\nWhat you can expect?\nReal Conversations Leading to Real Solutions. \n4 Virtual Events. Each with a specific focus and goal. We are looking to bridge the gaps in services for mental health\, addictions\, and brain injury throughout the province to inspire real change. \nWe want to open the conversation to see what is working provincially\, what isn’t working\, and where do we need to shift. What are the next steps to integrating services? Your input is needed! \nFull series details: https://headstogetherthinktank.com/

SUMMARY:REHABILITATION & COMMUNITY SUPPORTS
DESCRIPTION:Everyone deserves to have a sense of belonging in their community. People living with mental health issues\, addictions\, and/or a brain injury often feel disconnected from loved ones\, family\, friends\, and the community-at-large. We know they do better when the services needed are accessible\, equitable\, client-centered\, wellness focused\, culturally safe\, diversified\, and flexible. Too often\, however\, the services are siloed and a person and their family are challenged to navigate a fragmented system. In some instances\, the system feels non-existent. \nWe want to hear about what is working in communities across the province and to collaborate on how wrap-around services can be developed\, expanded\, and improved to help people thrive in their journey with better outcomes. \nDr. Don Castaldi is the founder and Executive Director of DC Waterstone Services a multi-service organization created with a commitment to increase understanding of human behaviour and inspire people and groups to thrive and grow irrespective of circumstance\, mental health or history. He is also the co-founder of the internationally recognized relationship-based support program S.I.V.A. (Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments) Training. Holding a doctorate in clinical psychology with specializations in attachment\, trauma and forensics\, Dr. Castaldi has over 25 years of experience and is a perennial advisor and international speaker to numerous organizations and professionals in support of individuals impacted by mental health\, neurodevelopment and brain injury. \nThe Brain Injury Alliance\, established in 2014\, administers the Brain Injury Fund (BIF)\, established by the Province of BC in 2015. The membership of the Alliance comprises 13 brain injury societies that collectively provide services and programs to some 4000 individuals who are living with a brain injury\, annually. \nThe board of the Alliance\, elected by the membership\, adjudicates grant requests and distributes approximately one million dollars annually from the BIF to help fund member agency delivered programs and services. \nWhy does the Alliance matter? \nCommunity brain injury societies are an important component of the health and human service sector in BC.\nAlliance funding is vital to service provision for more than 4000 British Columbians with brain injuries annually.\nFunds distributed by the Alliance has improved timely access to quality brain injury services at the community level.\nPrograms and services delivered with the aid of Alliance funding are delivered at no charge to the person with a brain injury.\nAlliance funding fosters innovation and efficiency at the community level. \n\nABOUT THE HEADS TOGETHER THINK TANK SERIES\nWhat you can expect?\nReal Conversations Leading to Real Solutions. \n4 Virtual Events. SUMMARY:REAL PEOPLE – REAL STORIES
DESCRIPTION:Survivors of brain injury share their profound journey through mental health\, addictions\, and brain injury. They will share their journey of homelessness\, incarceration\, and struggling for years without knowing any services were available to them. Prepare to be inspired and moved by their courage and will to create change for themselves and their communities. \nThe impact of a brain injury affects the entire family. The added pressures of navigating a fragmented system to find supports that include mental health and/or addiction services is daunting. Hear these families share what they need from the outside world so they can thrive and rebuild their lives. \nHear from individuals\, like Geri Bemister Williams\, who have overcome all odds to rebuild and redesign their life and are now serving professionally in the mental health\, addictions\, and brain injury communities. \nYou don’t want to miss hearing Geri’s story of triumph. She understands the path of mental health\, addictions\, and brain injury and is passionate about her work in helping others. She is an amazing speaker with an incredible message. \n\nABOUT THE HEADS TOGETHER THINK TANK SERIES\nWhat you can expect?\nReal Conversations Leading to Real Solutions. \n4 Virtual Events. SUMMARY:DANCELABS
DESCRIPTION:  \n>>> ♥ D A N C E L A B S ♥ <<<\nWe need more dance! And GREAT music!\nAnd we’re missing our connection\, and our festivals\, and our touring superstar producers and artists! \nI reached out to some friends and asked if they would contribute a LIVE set to a Sunset benefit event\, and a bit to my surprise\, they ALL said YES – and their schedules all aligned for ONE date – JULY 17! I’m so grateful and humbled by the generosity of our amazing community – deep bows to Dakini\, Drumspyder\, Desert Dwellers\, SaQi and Mihirangi for their interest in lifting our little Victoria venue and dance tribe here. \nWe can’t call this a festival… but have you ever seen these 5 acts on the same lineup in the same evening?! This is awesome badass blessed bonkers music madness. \nThis virtual party is going to be the BEST. We are using professional livestream and audio gear to manage the broadcast\, working closely with artists to support their LIVE delivery into the event\, and we have some very fun additional elements we’ll be weaving in to make our evening together all the better. Hope you can join us :))\n \n \nGET TICKETS \n  \n\nWHY A FUNDRAISER?\nRight now\, there’s so many people and purposes that need our support. We don’t have to look far to find people\, causes and organizations who really need some extra care\, attention\, resources and support. So… asking for your help in this moment feels imperfect\, and that said\, Sunset needs some help. \nThis unusual moment has been really impactful on Sunset Labs (and venues everywhere!). With plenty of 2020 bookings in the calendar\, we went ‘all in’ on a renovation December-January… and made a number of huge changes at the venue. An end-to-end paint job… upgrades to lighting\, sound\, seating\, power\, airflow… new floors\, new ceilings\, a new mini-stage… so much. It’s the most dramatic overhaul in the venue’s history\, and since COVID landed just after we re-opened… very few people have seen it. But it’s great\, you’ll love it. We love it. \nEconomically\, Sunset Labs has long been effectively a breakeven scenario. There’s very little money in arts\, kids birthdays\, film screenings\, non-profit programs\, dance culture\, and workshops (yes there’s money in alcohol\, but we’re not interested in being licensed). We’ve never really designed or intended Sunset Labs to make a bunch of money… just to make a bunch of difference for our guests and community – a fun\, safe\, creative\, lifting community space that advances people and projects that matter\, and we feel really good about what we’ve been up to\, in these last few years in particular. \nSo\, now to THIS moment. On the heels of our big renovation & upgrades with Sunset already low on resources suddenly COVID hit. All the spring/summer bookings were cancelled and we’ve been offering future credits and returning deposits. We’ve now been months without income and as far as we and other venue owners can tell… there’s no aid in place for venues provincially or federally\, and no end in sight to serious constraints on our operations. We need to create some resources now. Thanks for whatever support you can bring to help Sunset catch up and pivot to this unusual moment. \n  \n\nOUR ARTISTS & CONTRIBUTORS\nMIHIRANGI | New Zealand\nreverbnation.com/mihirangi/ \nSaQi | Jumpsuit Records\, USA\nhttps://www.saqimusic.com/ \nDRUMSPYDER | Bay Area\, USA\nhttps://www.drumspyder.com/ \nDAKINI | Bay Area\, USA\nhttps://www.facebook.com/DjDakini/ \nDESERT DWELLERS | Colorado\, USA\nhttps://desertdwellersmusic.bandcamp.com/ \nlive art by KASHI INNANI\nkashivisionaryart.com \nvisuals by JOHNATHAN SINGER\nhttp://johnathansinger.com/ \n  \n\nTHE PARTY IS ONLINE!\nThis online party won’t be just another zoom call. We’re pullin out all the stops and this will be a beautiful\, high-definition\, multi-camera\, interactive broadcast. Get your biggest screen & sound system setup and be ready to dance the night away in the living room! \nThe coolest thing about offering a livestream for this event is that you and your friends can attend from ANYWHERE in the world with an internet connection! Through our easy online webinar system\, you can engage with other viewers. You certainly CAN choose to just sit back and watch & listen\, if you like – your active participation isn’t an expectation\, but it IS an opportunity. \nI am deeply aware that many members of the Sunset Labs community have also experienced significant financial impact\, so if you wish to attend the livestream but lack the funds to contribute at this time\, please don’t let that get in your way and just contribute the minimum amount of $2 – we all need the dance right now. \n  \n\nHELP US SPREAD THE WORD?\nAs online dance events go\, we think this one will be pretty special\, and for the enjoyment of all – as well as generating extra support for Sunset – we’d love your help in spreading the word about this event. The EASIEST way is via the Facebook event HERE. Just hit INVITE and invite all your friends who might enjoy this night! Also\, you can engage on the event wall\, post this event to your own page. and of course\, go old school and actually call and invite some friends :)) Thanks for any efforts here to get the word out! \n  \n\nDONATE\, PRE-PURCHASE\, or INVEST\nA few people have reached out expressing they can’t tune in to this event but they’d like to contribute some dollars to the sustainability & evolution of Sunset Labs. What we’re creating to facilitate this is more like a coupon – an internal currency we’re calling LAB$ (“Labs”) – which is effectively just a gift certificate… which can later be redeemed towards venue rentals\, media production\, and tickets to internally produced events. SUMMARY:HIP FEST: A Sunset Labs Virtual Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:CANADA DAY HIP FEST!:\nA Sunset Labs Fundraiser & Livestream\nft HIP CHECK! \nHello Sunset Labs community! \nWE MISS YOU! (do you miss us too?) What a strange time we find ourselves… to need connection and movement and community more than ever and to have exactly that\, pulled away\, for awhile. I hope you have everything you need… and are finding the growth & blessings within the confusion and circumstance. \nWHY A FUNDRAISER? \nRight now\, there’s so many people and purposes that need our support. We don’t have to look far right now to find people\, causes and organizations who really need some extra care\, attention\, resources and support. So… asking for your help in this moment feels imperfect\, and that said\, I am writing to ask for your help. \nThis unusual moment has been really impactful on Sunset Labs. With plenty of 2020 bookings in the calendar\, I went ‘all in’ on a renovation December-January… and made a number of huge changes at the venue. An end-to-end paint job… upgrades to lighting\, sound\, seating\, power\, airflow… new floors\, new ceilings\, a new mini-stage… so much. I love it. \nEconomically\, Sunset Labs has long been effectively a breakeven scenario. There’s very little money in arts\, kids birthdays\, film screenings\, non-profit programs\, dance culture\, and small workshops (yes there’s money in alcohol\, but I’m not interested in being licensed). I’ve never really designed or intended Sunset Labs to make a bunch of money… just to make a lot of difference for our guests and community. A fun\, safe\, creative\, lifting community space that advances people and projects that matter. And – I feel really good about what we’ve been up to\, in these last few years in particular. \nSo\, now to THIS moment. On the heels of a big renovation (one in which all the contractors went quite over budget\, I might add)… myself & Sunset were already low on resources and suddenly COVID hit. All the spring/summer bookings were cancelled and we’ve been offering future credits and returning deposits. We’ve now been months without income and as far as I and other venue owners can tell… there’s no aid in place for venues provincially or federally\, and no end in sight to serious constraints on our operations. SUMMARY:[POSTPONED] Preservation Haul
DESCRIPTION:PRESERVATION HAUL\nAn Arts Victoria Launch & Celebration \n\nWe’re so excited to invite you to a special event designed BY and FOR our amazing arts community! \nYou may not yet be familiar with The Victoria Arts Promotion and Preservation Society\, but you likely know our work. “VAPPS” is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to increase access to Victoria’s artistic output; both today and for future generations. \nWe’ve now guided ArtsVictoria.ca for 6 years\, and are now taking over full ownership of the site from the City of Victoria. At the same time\, LiveVictoria.com and its 20 years of history in the community are also being turned over and entrusted to VAPPS. The two sites will together form Victoria’s most diverse\, comprehensive and dynamic cultural calendar\, arts hub and living archive – ALL completely artist-led and community owned. \n\nTHE CELEBRATION \nTo celebrate this occasion we want to gather our communities under one roof. Join us at Sunset Labs at 7pm for music\, libations\, and conversations. There will be live music\, a short presentation about our vision\, and a DJ set by Dimitri Demers featuring some local gems. \nAny artist or organization representative who pre-registers for the event and has a profile on the site gets a FREE drink ticket. If you don’t have a profile yet\, we’ll have terminals on hand to create one – or do it now!:\n https://www.artsvictoria.ca/submit \n\nBRING YOUR ART!\nBring Something for the MEDIA ARCHIVES!: We strive to ensure that the work of our city’s artists endures. Maybe you have a rare local album\, a hard drive of concert photos\, an iconic poster or photos of street art. We will have archiving stations set up for all types of media. We will safely and securely store the data and grant the owners control of what happens to it. From completely private backup\, to free for all\, you choose what feels right. \nIf you have a large amount\, or exotic format of content that needs to be indexed\, please email archivist@victoriaarts.ca with specifics so we can make sure we are ready to accommodate! \n\nOUR EVENING’S SCHEDULE\n7:00pm – doors\n7:00pm – MIXER\, DRINKS & JAZZ!\n8:30pm – MAGICIAN JASON VERNERS\n8:45pm – VAPPS PRESENTATION\n9:00pm – PERFORMANCE TBC\n9:10pm – MIXER\, DRINKS & DJ DIMITRE!\n10:00pm – doors close \n \nGET TICKETS HERE\n \n

SUMMARY:Marketing for Hippies 101
DESCRIPTION:This is a pay-what-you-can\, day-long workshop where you can learn the marketing secrets of North America’s most successful green\, holistic\, community-minded entrepreneurs to attract more of the clients you want (without ever sacrificing your integrity or spending a fortune). \nMarketing can feel good. \nThat’s the premise of this workshop. \nSince 2001\, I have traveled around North America working with conscious entrepreneurs just like you. Some successful\, others struggling. And I’ve gathered quite the assortment of success stories and strategies right from the horses’ mouths.\nThis workshop is my best distillation and collection of those practices and stories. \nMy name is Tad Hargrave and I want to invite you to come and join us for this day-long workshop. \n  \n\nPRICE & REGISTRATION OPTIONS:\n$25 deposit + Pay What You Want at the End.\nWhat does this mean? You pay $25 to secure your spot. And then you get to enjoy the workshop and\, at the very end\, you can pay me whatever you’d like to pay. Were I to charge full price you’d pay $200 for this workshop but I also want to keep it accessible to those who can’t afford that amount. Plus\, the workshop might be more valuable to some than others and why should you both pay the same amount? It’s an honest-to-goodness\, decide-at-the-end\, no funny business\, pay-what-you-can/want deal. \nOR:\nI’ve made an option for you to pay 3 installments of $67. If you’d like to pay the full market value of this workshop but want to spread those payments out\, choose the 3-pay option! You’ll be charged $67 now\, and then you’ll receive an invoice from my PayPal account for 2 more payments of $67 in each of the following two months. \nOR:\nI’ve also added the option to simply pay a flat $200 market value fee for the workshop upfront. If that feels good and convenient for you\, please choose this option. It’s something that’s been requested a number of times so I’m trying it out\, but either way is fine by me. \n  \n\nWORKSHOP DETAILS\nThis is a day-long\, content-rich\, roll-up your sleeves\, nuts and bolts workshop. It’s all about how you can grow your business and attract all of the right kinds of clients. \nIn general\, here’s who this workshop is for: \nPerhaps you are selling a natural\, eco-friendly\, cruelty-free or otherwise healthy product. \nOr maybe you’re in the Healing Arts or a Holistic Practitioner? Perhaps you’re a Therapist\, Massage Therapist or Body-worker\, Yoga Instructor\, Herbalist\, Shamanic Practitioner\, Life-Coach\, Meditation Teacher etc. \nAre you a local business owner who just plain cares deeply about your community\, nature and social justice? Maybe you run a Yoga Studio\, Eco-Friendly House Cleaning company\, an Organic Farm\, a local Theatre Company\, a Fitness Studio\, a comfy\, little locally owned Bookstore\, a groovy local Restaurant\, an Eco-Store\, a Pottery shop or a Natural Health-Food Stores etc. \nOr you might be running some sort of permaculture-based business. \nAt its heart\, this workshop is all about exploring the question:\n“How can you sell your products and services without selling your soul?” \nToo much marketing (even by savvy\, conscious entrepreneurs) creates either no response or seems “over-hyped” and triggers a “used car salesman” reaction. \nSo . . .\nHow do you market your products without compromising your principles? How can you make sure your marketing gets a positive response and creates warm feelings of trust? Better yet – how do you have your ideal client approaching you\, instead of you chasing them? \nWhile mingling with like-minded peers\, you’ll learn: \nThe Three Core Foundations and Seven Elements of Your Platform that you need to attract more – and better – clients\, with absolutely zero budget. \nThe core reason why most marketing feels bad (and exactly how to make sure that your marketing avoids it). \nThe only three kinds of potential clients you will ever meet\, and the exact approach you need to take with each of them. \nWhat to Bring:\n– Pen and paper.\n– Money: your cheque book\, cash or credit card (I am also happy to accept a promissory note from you so you can pay me via PayPal or etransfer when you get home). \nA reminder about cell phones:\nPlease remember to put your phone on silent or even turn it right off. I encourage you to make the effort to really be present in the room and at the workshop. There will be a nice long lunch break and a couple of stretch breaks to check for updates if you need to! \nWhat does the day look like?\n10:00am-1:00pm – workshop\n1:00-2:30pm – lunch\n2:30-6:00pm – workshop \nSo\, that’s it. If you have any questions\, feel free to email me at admin@marketingforhippies.com otherwise I hope to see you there. \nWarmest\,\nTad Hargrave\nfounder\, marketingforhippies.com\, nichingspiral.com \n  \n\nPS: BONUS!\nWhen you register for one of these workshops you’ll get a copy of my new book How to Start\, which sells for $20 in my online shop. This book is a practical and refreshing\, seven-step workbook to use when marketing feels gross and awkward (you can do it all in one lazy\, rainy afternoon and you’ll use it for the rest of the life of your business).\nHow to Start is a tiny workbook about a little idea that could make a big difference in every piece of marketing you ever do from here on. Here’s the little idea: what if you made the heart of your marketing strategy about how your marketing feels to you and others? \n\nAbout Tad Hargrave\nTad is a hippy who developed a knack for marketing (and then learned how to be a hippy again.) For almost a decade\, he has been touring his marketing workshops around Canada\, bringing refreshing and unorthodox ideas to conscious entrepreneurs and green businesses that help them grow their organizations and businesses (without selling their souls).\nHe does improv comedy semi-professionally\, co-runs Edmonton’s progressive community building network TheLocalGood.ca\, founded streetcarshows.com\, indigodrinks.ca\, socialyogiyeg.com\, and the Jams program of yesworld.org. He speaks Scottish Gaelic and helps to run novascotiagaelsjam.com and is also a huge Doctor Who nerd. \nTad currently lives in Edmonton\, Alberta (traditionally known\, in the local indigenous language of the Cree\, as Amiskwaciy (Beaver Hill) and later Amiskwaciwaskihegan (Beaver Hill House) and his ancestors come primarily from Scotland with some from the Ukraine as well. He is drawn to conversations around politics\, history\, ancestry\, healing and how those all intersect.\nYou can learn more about Tad and his work at marketingforhippies.com\, nichingspiral.com \n  \n\nCan’t make it?\nCheck out:\nMarketing for Hippies Video and Workbook
