SUMMARY:Nights of Grief and Mystery
DESCRIPTION:An improbable\, impossible night of words & music. The duo Storyteller/author Stephen Jenkinson & Musician Gregory Hoskins on the dark road Author/Activist Stephen Jenkinson and recording artist Gregory Hoskins fuse their separate work into an evening that is part book reading\, part concert\, part poetry\, part lamentation\, part ribaldry\, part lifting the mortal veil and learning the mysteries there. \nThat’s what’s been performed to sold out houses in Australia\, New Zealand\, Canada\, England\, Scotland\, Wales\, Iceland and the USA. \nConcerts for Turbulent Times they surely are. We aren’t poets\, maybe\, but the evenings are poetic. They are musical and grave and raucous and stilling\, which probably means they are theatrical. They are nights in which love letters to life are written and read aloud. There’s some boldness in them. They have that tone. \nThese nights have the mark of our time upon them\, and they’re timely\, urgent\, alert\, steeped in mortal mystery. \nThey’re quixotic.\nThey have swagger.\nWhat would you call such a thing?\nWe called it Nights of Grief & Mystery. \nSeven years\, 2 short films\, and three full length recordings after its’ inception\, Nights of Grief & Mystery: Rough Gods Tour travels the dark road again with a handful of not-to-be-missed duo shows that harken back to the beginning of their collaboration. \n“We do so when the current appetite is for either distraction or distress\, and we seem to be in neither business.” SJ\n  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n \n\n  \n WHAT THE AUDIENCE HAS SAID \nAnd for the whole show I just sat in wonder: How is it even possible to let music and words be engaged in such a fertile merging!? I felt that those deeply touching stories of Stephen Jenkinson were somehow brought to life by the music as if by midwifery and the wonderful voice of Gregory Hoskins and the feminine and sexy band. I know from my work as an author that it is very tricky to intertwine story-telling or reading with music. But this event proved the impossible. I looked around by the end of the evening and saw us all there in wonder and uplifted spirit\, yet deeply rooted in our inner archives. – Oddný Eir – Reykjavik\, Iceland\n \nWow. Just wow. What a beautiful\, heart wrenching\, funny\, brilliant show. I was astounded by the eloquence and poetic nature of Stephen’s oratory style\, and by the (for lack of a better word) TOTAL BAD-ASSNESS of the band. – N\, Tuners Falls\, ME\n \nMy heart is still full and my tongue is drunk from last night. – MS \, Franklin\, TN\n \nSo utterly heartbreaking and beautiful.” MLF\, Ithaca\, NY\n \nExtraordinary! It was a beautiful and unraveling intimate night. – LG\, Roanoke\, NC\n \nThe show was beautiful and dark and compelling and cathartic. Educational yet humbling. Strange yet familiar. It was a singular experience. I’m still kinda dumbstruck by the whole thing.” – CT\, Kitchener\, ON\n \nI highly recommend this show to you. Highly. Higher than highly.” – PS\, London\, ON \n \n\n  \nTERRITORIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT\nSunset Labs sits on the traditional\, ancestral\, unceded homelands of the Lekwungen people\, now also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We endeavour to honour this land\, its peoples and treaties by strengthening our relationship and responsibilities to them. We acknowledge and thank the Lekwungen people\, on whose land we live\, work\, create\, dance and play.

SUMMARY:Peia~ Vocal Workshop
DESCRIPTION:  \nSONG OF THE ANCIENTS\nVocal Workshop with Peia\nEach one of us is gifted with a uniquely beautiful voice and lineage of song. Discover your true voice through an embodied practice\, engaging natural breath and resonance techniques guided by Peia. Learn to harness the power of your breath\, deepen and expand your breath capacity and sing from your core. Unlock the natural resonance of your voice and learn to direct sound\, and move it through the body as well as the room. Working with tools from the ancient Indian alchemy of Raga we will enter a deeply meditative practice known as ‘The Yoga of Sound.’ We also gain deeper understanding of the physical workings of the voice from Vocal Pedagogy (the science of the voice) and learn to sing with grace\, power\, flexibility and ease. \nThe First part of the workshop focuses on vocal embodiment and cultivation tools while the second part implements the tools via the learning of a song from the Celtic tradition. During our time together we will explore: \n\nSomatic & Embodiment tools to unblock both the singing and speaking voice & liberate our inherent expression of beauty and vitality.\nBreath meditations and techniques to return to our natural breath cycle\, which regulates the nervous system and helps to release trauma stored in the body.\nPractices to cultivate both resonance and volume without taxing or overworking the voice\nVocal Warm Ups and tools to stretch the vocal range gently\nVocal Care\nOne Song from the Celtic Tradition that will connect us to the rituals and way of life of these ancient people.\n\nIt is said that at its height the Celtic culture stretched from as far South as Turkey to the North of Scotland & Ireland. If you have European blood running through your veins\, there is a good chance that you share an ancestral connection to the Celtic Clans. This is an opportunity to dive into both the songs and the language of this ancient culture. \n  \nVOCAL WORKSHOP TICKETS:\n\nOnly 75 tickets available. Tickets are $25-$50 sliding scale.\nPlease choose the price that reflects your capacity.\n* Paypal or eTransfer to: payments@sunsetlabs.ca * \n  \nABOUT PEIA\n\nPeia Luzzi is an American born song collector\, writer and multi-instrumentalist based in the mountains of Appalachia. Like water from a deep well\, she draws inspiration from her ancestral roots of Irish and Old World European folk music. Peia’s voice dances nimbly from Child Ballads and 17th C. Gaelic laments\, to Waulking Songs\, and Bulgarian mountain calls. She has traveled & studied extensively over the past 10 years to reconnect with her own ancestral song tradition. Uncovering melodies wrinkled & wise with time\, while taking care to honor their language and stories\, Peia brings a piece of herself to each song she carries. \nHer live performances are often described as timeless and transcendent\, as she transports audiences through hypnotic rhythms & soaring ethereal vocals. Often accompanied by double bass & percussion\, her trio will once again be touring Europe late summer 2022.  Along with song gathering & writing songs that speak to the heart of our present experience\, Peia’s passion lies in guiding others to discover their own authentic voice & expression. \nA powerful voice in the rising global community of people who are committed to restoring a balanced relationship with the Earth\, Peia expresses her holistic vision and passion through her music\, educational workshops and advocacy for social and environmental rights groups. \nPeia’s ensemble weaves in soaring soprano vocals\, driving percussion\, and hypnotic double bass groves\, together with her own instrumentation on charangon and harmonium to create lush\, organic soundscapes. Her mesmerizing performances offer authentic re-imaginings of traditional musical treasures\, along with a stunning repertoire of her own original songs \n  \n“Peia’s voice soars like the wind\nas she sings a love letter to our Earth\nand an ode to humanity.”\n– Huffington Post \n  \nOCTOBER 3 CONCERT & FILM SCREENING:\n\nOn Monday October 3rd we are hosting a musical concert & film screening with Peia at First Church of Christ on Pandora Avenue. SUMMARY:Peia~ To The Well
DESCRIPTION:Join Peia for her “To the Well” film release and concert: the culmination of several months of grant study in the Gaeltachts (Irish speaking regions) of Western Ireland. Peia will focus on the songs and stories she gathered during her studies\, as well as some old favorites. She will be joined by Irish & Appalachian fiddler Andrew Finn Magill. \n  \n“TO THE WELL”\n“I could sing in over 20 languages yet I knew not a single song from my family nor one word from their ancestral language. I lacked true north and something in me remained searching and rootless.” \nWith equal parts thirst\, gratitude\, and the kind of urgent\, grief-soaked willingness to peer into a deep well after long pilgrimage\, Peia stood on the west coast of County Kerry\, Ireland and held the songs of her ancestors in her mouth like so much bread after generations of famine. The result of years of study\, this is the tale of finding the source of an erased origin: a holy well of songs still as alive and vibrant as the good green hills\, as sturdy as the standing stones. \nIt is said culture can be forgotten in but two generations. Every modern person in the so-called west suffers from the legacies of colonization: a sense of separation from place-based lifeways that erupt from the land itself\, manifesting in the forms of dance\, foods\, rituals\, ceremonies\, folk arts – and song. \nAmnesia is a hallmark of our species\, but so is remembering.\nAnd to remember\, we must listen deeply. \nFor Peia’s To The Well Film Release and Concert Tour\, we invite you to come and to drink deeply from an ancient shared source. While we are all descendants of lands that gave shape and sound to our cultures\, we also need courage to confront what is reflected in the water. To go to the well is to take the long road back to ourselves. It is not an endeavor to do alone: this kind of healing happens in community. For this journey\, we will accompany you with some new and favorite songs\, yes\, but also a viewing of the short film followed by some Q&A from the audience. \n  \nABOUT PEIA\nPeia Luzzi is an American born song collector\, writer and multi-instrumentalist based in the mountains of Appalachia. That is our devotional act. \nSafe & Sound Salons: Courtenay – Cortes Island – Powell River – Cortes Island – Salt Spring Island – Duncan – Gabriola Island – Victoria https://orphanwisdom.com/events/list/ \nSmall salon shows that follow local COVID-19 guidelines. SUMMARY:On the Cusp 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Eternal Dance of Capricorn & Aquarius Continues…\nAs we move into the 2000 year Age of Aquarius\, we together shift from the Piscean framework of hierarchy\, and power… into an Aquarian framework of information\, equality\, networks and collaboration. There’s a new time birthing\, a new way… and as we welcome the arrival of Aquarius\, in the Age of Aquarius\, in a new year with some new energies rising and old energies falling to the background… we gather to connect\, to move\, to remember what it is to have community\, to dance and celebrate and feel each other’s shared movements from near\, or far. \nWe dance for our ancestors… for our descendants… we dance as a love song to the earth\, as a gratitude poem to our feet\, as a massage for our organs… we dance because we CAN\, in a time when connection and moving energy is so vital. THANK YOU for being with us… for dancing with us… and for sharing a moment in time – in community – regardless our physical location. While it may be a moment longer before we can return to the touch we once knew\, and need… we can until then touch each other’s hearts and minds… and it’s a path well worth developing. Our next step is right here\, on the cusp of what comes next. \n♥ ♥ ♥ \n\nMUSICAL CONTRIBUTIONS FROM \nSpice Traders \nhttps://soundcloud.com/spicetradersmusic\nThe inescapable evolution of our beloved Kaminanda\, Spice Traders is the newest most beauteous creative expression of Stephen Medeiros… Colorful\, slow\, spacious House and Downtempo with a plethora of musicians trading spices. Spectral sunsets\, fractal flowers and ancient architecture roll into the night upon a Thunder Phoenix born of lightning and tonal sunbeams.\n  \nDJ Rowan \nSublime Events | Sunset Labs\nhttps://www.mixcloud.com/rowansentesy\nRowan has been DJing and promoting events in BC for over a decade sharing the stage with mainstay festival acts like Adham Shaikh\, Gaudi\, Liquid Stranger\, Ganga Giri\, Delhi 2 Dublin\, Bluetech\, Saqi\, Desert Dwellers\, David Starfire\, Drumspyder\, Random Rab and more. Rowan’s creates sonic journeys layered with exotic textures\, hypnotic rhythms and soaring\, soulful melodies. This is what he is lovingly pulled towards\, again and again.\n  \nDJ Dodd \nReturning Saturn | Sunset Labs\n https://facebook.com/TheDoddAbides/\nThe existence of Dodd has long been questioned by those who’ve not been on his dancefloor — but those who’ve been there are fast and thorough believers. From his humble beginnings as a dancefloor observer Dodd carefully catalogued the sounds and reactions of the people in order to pinpoint the perfect palette of progressive sounds. Whether you’re a believer or not\, with the speakers as his chorus\, you will be moved by the voice of Dodd…\n  \n\nTHE PARTY IS ONLINE!\nThis online party won’t be just another zoom call. We’re pullin out all the stops and this will be a beautiful\, high-definition\, multi-camera\, interactive broadcast. Get your biggest screen & sound system setup and be ready to dance the night away in the living room!\nThe coolest thing about offering a livestream for this event is that you and your friends can attend from ANYWHERE in the world with an internet connection! Through our easy online webinar system\, you can engage with other viewers. You certainly CAN choose to just sit back and watch & listen\, if you like – your active participation isn’t an expectation\, but it IS an opportunity. \nCREATE YOUR DANCE SPACE\nTake the time in advance to make your space great\, whatever that means to you. Build an altar\, light incense\, play with the lighting\, make it beautiful. Good tech helps too – connect your computer to a big external monitor so you can see us all… try to get your best speakers all set up so that the sound can move through your body. A little extra time on your personal setup can give you a vastly different experience :)) \nHELP US SPREAD THE WORD?\nAs online dance events go\, we think this one will be pretty special\, and for the enjoyment of all – as well as generating extra support for Sunset – we’d love your help in spreading the word about this event. The EASIEST way is just to hit INVITE and invite all your friends who might enjoy this night! Also\, you can engage on the event wall\, post this event to your own page.. and of course\, go old school and actually call and invite some friends :)) Thanks for any efforts here to get the word out! \nOUR GIFT TO YOU\nAs a community you’ve given so much to Sunset Labs\, THANK YOU. This virtual dance night is our small gift to you\, and ask only that you participate fully… honour the musicians and contributors… and share this event with any you think should be joining us in the virtual domains – we ALL need some good movement these days. SUMMARY:DANCELABS
DESCRIPTION:  \n>>> ♥ D A N C E L A B S ♥ <<<\nWe need more dance! And GREAT music!\nAnd we’re missing our connection\, and our festivals\, and our touring superstar producers and artists! \nI reached out to some friends and asked if they would contribute a LIVE set to a Sunset benefit event\, and a bit to my surprise\, they ALL said YES – and their schedules all aligned for ONE date – JULY 17! I’m so grateful and humbled by the generosity of our amazing community – deep bows to Dakini\, Drumspyder\, Desert Dwellers\, SaQi and Mihirangi for their interest in lifting our little Victoria venue and dance tribe here. \nWe can’t call this a festival… but have you ever seen these 5 acts on the same lineup in the same evening?! This is awesome badass blessed bonkers music madness. \nThis virtual party is going to be the BEST. We are using professional livestream and audio gear to manage the broadcast\, working closely with artists to support their LIVE delivery into the event\, and we have some very fun additional elements we’ll be weaving in to make our evening together all the better. Hope you can join us :))\n \n \nGET TICKETS \n  \n\nWHY A FUNDRAISER?\nRight now\, there’s so many people and purposes that need our support. We don’t have to look far to find people\, causes and organizations who really need some extra care\, attention\, resources and support. So… asking for your help in this moment feels imperfect\, and that said\, Sunset needs some help. \nThis unusual moment has been really impactful on Sunset Labs (and venues everywhere!). With plenty of 2020 bookings in the calendar\, we went ‘all in’ on a renovation December-January… and made a number of huge changes at the venue. An end-to-end paint job… upgrades to lighting\, sound\, seating\, power\, airflow… new floors\, new ceilings\, a new mini-stage… so much. It’s the most dramatic overhaul in the venue’s history\, and since COVID landed just after we re-opened… very few people have seen it. But it’s great\, you’ll love it. We love it. \nEconomically\, Sunset Labs has long been effectively a breakeven scenario. There’s very little money in arts\, kids birthdays\, film screenings\, non-profit programs\, dance culture\, and workshops (yes there’s money in alcohol\, but we’re not interested in being licensed). We’ve never really designed or intended Sunset Labs to make a bunch of money… just to make a bunch of difference for our guests and community – a fun\, safe\, creative\, lifting community space that advances people and projects that matter\, and we feel really good about what we’ve been up to\, in these last few years in particular. \nSo\, now to THIS moment. On the heels of our big renovation & upgrades with Sunset already low on resources suddenly COVID hit. All the spring/summer bookings were cancelled and we’ve been offering future credits and returning deposits. We’ve now been months without income and as far as we and other venue owners can tell… there’s no aid in place for venues provincially or federally\, and no end in sight to serious constraints on our operations. We need to create some resources now. Thanks for whatever support you can bring to help Sunset catch up and pivot to this unusual moment. \n  \n\nOUR ARTISTS & CONTRIBUTORS\nMIHIRANGI | New Zealand\nreverbnation.com/mihirangi/ \nSaQi | Jumpsuit Records\, USA\nhttps://www.saqimusic.com/ \nDRUMSPYDER | Bay Area\, USA\nhttps://www.drumspyder.com/ \nDAKINI | Bay Area\, USA\nhttps://www.facebook.com/DjDakini/ \nDESERT DWELLERS | Colorado\, USA\nhttps://desertdwellersmusic.bandcamp.com/ \nlive art by KASHI INNANI\nkashivisionaryart.com \nvisuals by JOHNATHAN SINGER\nhttp://johnathansinger.com/ \n  \n\nTHE PARTY IS ONLINE!\nThis online party won’t be just another zoom call. What we’re creating to facilitate this is more like a coupon – an internal currency we’re calling LAB$ (“Labs”) – which is effectively just a gift certificate… which can later be redeemed towards venue rentals\, media production\, and tickets to internally produced events. So… asking for your help in this moment feels imperfect\, and that said\, I am writing to ask for your help. \nThis unusual moment has been really impactful on Sunset Labs. With plenty of 2020 bookings in the calendar\, I went ‘all in’ on a renovation December-January… and made a number of huge changes at the venue. An end-to-end paint job… upgrades to lighting\, sound\, seating\, power\, airflow… new floors\, new ceilings\, a new mini-stage… so much. It’s easily the most dramatic overhaul in the venue’s history\, and since COVID landed just after we re-opened… very few people have seen it. But it’s great\, you’ll love it. I love it. \nEconomically\, Sunset Labs has long been effectively a breakeven scenario. There’s very little money in arts\, kids birthdays\, film screenings\, non-profit programs\, dance culture\, and small workshops (yes there’s money in alcohol\, but I’m not interested in being licensed). I’ve never really designed or intended Sunset Labs to make a bunch of money… just to make a lot of difference for our guests and community. A fun\, safe\, creative\, lifting community space that advances people and projects that matter. And – I feel really good about what we’ve been up to\, in these last few years in particular. \nSo\, now to THIS moment. On the heels of a big renovation (one in which all the contractors went quite over budget\, I might add)… myself & Sunset were already low on resources and suddenly COVID hit. All the spring/summer bookings were cancelled and we’ve been offering future credits and returning deposits. We’ve now been months without income and as far as I and other venue owners can tell… there’s no aid in place for venues provincially or federally\, and no end in sight to serious constraints on our operations. We need to create some resources now. \nWHY THIS HIP FEST THING? \nAnd then a few days ago\, like a hip angel arriving from out of nowhere… my friend Jonathan says… “You guys must really be struggling right now… can my band HIP CHECK host a fundraiser for Sunset Labs?” What?! Why YES\, why YES you can. :))) \nSO… we’re throwing a short-notice Canada Day Tragically Hip patio party! A small party onsite… a HUGE party online… the goals are to have a SERIOUSLY great time\, to find a couple different ways for us to BE together\, to BEGIN to wake Sunset up from it’s slumber\, AND to raise some funds to help Sunset be around a bit longer. \nI am excited to announce that there will be limited (25) IN PERSON tickets available (that will surely go quick) to come down and take in the band and dance the evening away in community. \nTHE BIG PARTY IS ONLINE!\nWe’ll also be offering a livestream of this event via so everyone who wishes to join us can do so. \nWHY A LIVESTREAM? \nThe coolest thing about offering a livestream for this event is that you and your friends can attend from ANYWHERE in the world with an internet connection! \nThrough our easy online webinar system\, you can engage with other viewers. You certainly CAN choose to just sit back and watch & listen\, if you like – your active participation isn’t an expectation\, but it IS an opportunity. \nI am deeply aware that many members of the Sunset Labs community have also experienced significant financial impact\, so if you wish to attend the livestream but lack the funds to contribute at this time\, please don’t let that get in your way. \nYou can also contribute by sharing this event with your wider community by sending invitations to this event\, sharing to your personal Facebook Pages etc. \nCOVID CARE\nNOTE: We’ll be following all of the appropriate social distancing and Covid-19 safety measures for everyone attending in person. \nTo keep everyone safe\, we’re asking that in person ticket holders do the following: \n1. Anyone holding an in person ticket who shows any symptoms of illness in the days leading up to the event release their ticket so that as many who wish to attend in person can do so. \n2. Anyone who shows sign of illness on the day of the event not attend in person. \nWe invite anyone who needs to release their in person ticket to join us via the livestream! \n\nABOUT HIP CHECK!: \nHip Check is a Tragically Hip cover band made up of five dads who love to play music and love the Tragically Hip. In honour and memory of Gord Downie\, Hip Check is committed to keeping the sounds of Gord Downie and The Hip alive. The band can be seen rocking house parties\, backyard gatherings and other venues around the CRD. Ever since that last Hip show in Victoria in 2016 we’ve been expanding our setlist and entertaining Hip fans and lovers of all ages.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/Hip-Check-Band-474155586330596 \nBAND MEMBERS: \nJonathan Schlackl – Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar\nDave Elash – Lead/Rhythm/Acoustic Guitar & Vocals\nBrad Bardua – Lead/Rhythm Guitar\, Keyboards & Vocals\nSean Franklin – Bass & Vocals\nDave Gardner – Drums & Percussion \n\nTWO WAYS TO JOIN US!\n1) JOIN THE VIRTUAL PARTY! \nThe online party won’t be just another zoom call. We’re pullin out all the stops and this will be a beautiful\, high-definition\, multi-camera\, interactive broadcast. Get your biggest screen & soud system setup and be ready to dance the night away in the living room! The VIRTUAL PARTY registration is here: \n \nGET DIGITAL TICKETS HERE \n   \n2) LIVE AT SUNSET LABS!\nIn Victoria and want to join us in person? We figure there’s room for 25 people at Sunset Labs! Our limited IN-PERSON party registrations (sliding scale for what you can afford to gift: $25\, $50 or $75)\, are HERE: \n \nGET IN PERSON TICKETS HERE \n \n(Please see the Covid Care section above for In Person Ticket information) \n\nWANTING TO DONATE?\nA few people have reached out expressing they can’t tune in to this particular event but they’d like to contribute some dollars to the sustainability & evolution of Sunset Labs. What we’re creating to facilitate this is more like a coupon – we’re generating an internal currency we’re calling LAB$ (“Labs”) – which is effectively just a gift certificate… which can later be redeemed towards venue rentals and tickets to internally produced events. If you want to purchase some LAB$ to help the venue grow\, please send an etransfer or paypal to labs@sunsetlabs.ca ♥

DESCRIPTION:Victoria welcomes back from Berlin… NOAH PRED!!\nw/ Rowan\, Nick Karma\, and Gano\nFriday\, July 5th\, 2019 | 9 pm – 2 am\n@ Sunset Labs | 400 Herald Street\, Victoria\n19+\, cash bar \nAdvance tickets on-sale now: $15\nPurchase tickets on Eventbrite\nTickets at door: $20 (if available) \nBrought to you by Sublime Productions and the Left Coast Crew \n————————— \n NOAH PRED\nBiologic / Compute / False Image \nCoaxing nuanced expression from analog machines and digital possibilities alike\, Noah Pred has been envisioning the future through electronic music for over twenty years – yet the story of this accomplished producer and DJ continues to unfold. Reinterpreting his signature production style anew\, 2018 saw the release of two full-lengths charting the territories between deep space experimentalism\, intricate polyrhythms\, delicate soundscapes\, evocative acid\, and hypnotic dub elements. \nThe breadth of Noah’s sonic worldview can most easily be accessed through his monthly two-hour podcast\, IFS. Each episode reveals the depth of his technical approach\, the sensibility of a seasoned selector\, and the pedigree of a late-night veteran. A two-time Juno Award nominee in his native Canada\, a music educator and technologist in his adopted hometown Berlin\, an alum of Cynosure\, Highgrade\, and Trapez LTD\, and founder of the acclaimed Thoughtless imprint\, Noah is also a DJ whose past residencies at Stereobar in Montreal and Fukhouse in Toronto helped lay the framework for his dynamic yet fluid sets that continue to resonate with diverse communities. \nA notable newcomer in Canada’s underground scene of the early 2000s\, Pred’s distinctive production style earned him a place among his peers with releases on Immigrant\, Intrinsic Design\, and Consigned Recordings. Driven by the fuel that fired up Thoughtless\, Noah relocated to Berlin in 2011\, where his creative horizons continued to expand via collaborative projects with Tom Clark as False Image on Get Physical\, with Pablo Bolivar on Apparel and Biotop\, with Tim Xavier on Alphahouse\, and with Deepchild as Concubine. \nBetween his recent solo EPs for Traumraum\, Compute\, and Biotop\, his vivid sets of techno\, house\, and electro\, the advanced sound design of his haunting atmospherics\, and the ever-evolving scope of his technical capabilities\, Noah’s commitment to electronic innovation remains as strong as ever – and in the face of global uncertainty\, his utopian sonic narratives have never felt so vital. \nhttp://noahpred.com/\nhttps://www.facebook.com/noahpred.official\nhttps://soundcloud.com/noahpred \n————————— \nROWAN \nSublime Productions \nRowan has been DJing and promoting events in BC for over a decade sharing the stage with mainstay festival acts like Adham Shaikh\, Gaudi\, Liquid Stranger\, Ganga Giri\, Delhi 2 Dublin\, Bluetech\, Saqi\, Desert Dwellers\, David Starfire\, Drumspyder\, Random Rab and more. SUMMARY:Darkest Night: Dancing In Our Shadows
DESCRIPTION:  \nSHADOW AND LIGHT SOURCE BOTH\nby Rumi \nHow does a part of the world leave the world?\nHow does wetness leave water?\nDon’t try to put out fire by throwing on more fire!\nDon’t wash a wound with blood.\nNo matter how fast you run\, your shadow keeps up.\nSometimes it’s in front!\nOnly full overhead sun diminishes your shadow. \nBut that shadow has been serving you.\nWhat hurts you\, blesses you.\nDarkness is your candle.\nYour boundaries are your quest.\nI could explain this\,\nbut it will break the glass cover on your heart\,\nand there’s no fixing that. \nYou must have shadow and light -source both.\nListen\, and lay your head under the tree of awe.\nWhen from that tree feathers and wings sprout on you\,\nbe quieter than a dove.\nDon’t even open your mouth for even a coo.\n \n  \nDARKEST NIGHT: Dancing In Our Shadows\n*please note details below re arrival times & agreements \nWelcome to ‘Darkest Night’\, our winter solstice celebration & ceremony! To you we bid welcome\, fellow human… frail & tender & bruised from a life well-traveled… hopeful yet resigned\, empowered yet diminished\, loving yet fearful. While our shadows are ever-present\, we live in an agreement reality wherein recognizing\, owning and dancing with our shadow is something we’re often left to do alone\, without support\, without witness. \nThis night we gather to spend the darkest night of the year together\, in communion\, in ceremony\, in reflection\, in reverence and in dance. As light or heavy as it may be\, come with an open heart\, and bring what shadows may persist… that we may do some deep work together to navigate the collective unspoken depths\, as we begin the long beautiful transition from the darkness… back into the light. \n  \nCOMMUNITY POTLUCK\nWe’ll open the doors at 6pm sharp and commune together until 7:30\, when we’ll begin to transition ourselves – and our space – towards the ceremony and evening. If you’re able to do so\, please bring 1 item that will feel good to make\, feel good to eat\, and feel good in our bellies as we dance later into the evening. Please LABEL your items & ingredients clearly so that everyone can make informed decisions on their meal. \nTo ensure the container is powerfully set for our evening\, during the opening ceremony new guests will not be welcomed into the space. SO – please arrive before 7:45pm OR after 8:15pm. (Ideally – come around 6pm to join us for the meal and connect with your community!) \n  \nOPENING | GUIDED REFLECTIONS (DYADS)\nJason Guille & Alex King-Harris\n* bring a journal & a cushion to sit on 🙂 \nAfter opening the circle and setting the container together\, we’ll get cozy for the thinking/reflecting/sharing part of our evening. Jason & Alex will offer you a series of questions to prompt personal reflections on the year that’s past\, and participants will be paired up together for solo journalling and then\, if & as you feel called\, to share your observations\, reflections and experiences. This will be a time not of coaching or advice\, but rather of deep reflection & LISTENING. \nWe’ll move through a series of guided explorations around our habits\, resentments\, stuckness\, wants\, relationships and incompletions. Here we’ll build a powerful bridge from the mind & the past… into the body & the present. \n  \nGUIDED CACAO CEREMONY\nOcian Flo & Jazmin Love \nCacao is considered to be a healing plant for inner growth. It is a very gentle and non psychedelic supporter that allows to open the heart to reconnect to our inner wisdom and true self. Cacao helps\, unlike other substances\, to do the shadow work from the heart instead of the brain. \nCacao is like the archetypal mother that gives you love and compassion\, that nourishes and nurtures you and gently supports you on your personal growth and your path to wholeness. She opens the door but you need to walk through. \n  \nDARKEST NIGHT DANCE TEMPLE\nJazmin Love\, Dance Temple Victoria \nThe ecstatic dance journey is a free-style movement experience featuring juicy\, soulful beats by Jaz to inspire deep and wild embodiment. The invitation is to dance with your shadows and to move from the inside out\, while remaining non-verbal\, as a way of deepening into the journey. Sounding is welcome. This is a safe\, sacred space for you to embody and express your whole self. \nJazmin Love is a co-founder and facilitator of Dance Temple Victoria. She has been facilitating ecstatic dance journeys for four years and is passionate about embodied movement as a means of awakening\, transformation and authentic expression. She has a lifelong background in dance and is inspired by creating sacred space and designing music sets for unleashing the wild within. \n  \nSOUNDSEED MEDICINE JOURNEY\nOcian Flo\, SoundSeed Medicine Journeys\nft Alex King-Harris (Rara Avis) \nSoundSeed Medicine Music can be described as a shamanic journey. Laying down\, participants can go into a deep almost a trance-like state. Ocian guides participants into the breath\, the body\, and the mind to create a safe container for us all to work with the sound as therapy or medicine. This is a practice of witnessing and listening deeply to how your body\, both physical and energetic and your mind\, both emotional and mental\, responds to the different sounds during the session. \nAs a sound practitioner since 2010\, Ocian gracefully weaves in a plethora of modalities to create one-of-a-kind experiences\, every time. Ocian is a visionary\, an intuitive\, a spiritual teacher and coach\, using frequency and vibration to harmonize the body\, mind and soul. These sessions include Crystal Bowls\, Crystal Lyre\, Crystal didjeridu\, Zaphir and Koshi Chimes\, Rattles\, drum and others\, along with her etheric and powerful voice. As she works\, Ocian can hear\, feel and sometimes see the underlying vibrational and energetic patterns held within the body or group energy field. She uses this clairaudience to offer an awareness of these patterns\, with a reminder of the power of our personal beliefs\, stories\, and most importantly\, our own ability to be the catalyst for our own repatterning. This work offers each person the potential and the power of self-healing and self-awareness. \nOcian will be initially joined by Alex King-Harris\, who has spent the past 20 years training himself to listen deeply. The result of this practice is that when he is in a room filled with magical beings who are also willing to listen deeply\, improvised songs can come through direct from the Great Mystery. They’re unprepared\, raw\, unfiltered and depending on the setting\, transformative. Alex’s intention at this event is to make himself available to this Cosmic Muse and hopefully make something happen that speaks to the hearts\, bodies and minds of those gathered. \n  \nAGREEMENTS & NOTES\nCOME FOR THE EVENING: To ensure the container is powerfully set for our evening\, during the opening ceremony new guests will not be welcomed into the space. SO – please arrive before 7:45pm and plan to be with us for the evening. If it’s really not possible to do so\, we will welcome latecomers 8:15pm-9:00pm and THEN WILL BE CLOSING THE DOORS. No entires will be allowed after 9pm. For the best group experience possible\, do try to come for dinner if it works – and please arrive before 7:45pm if at all possible. \nCONFIDENTIALITY: This gathering is intended to allow us to do some of our shadow work together\, in a safe container. Some of us may move through various emotional spaces\, or share personal stories not intended for the world at large. What happens here\, stays here\, and by attending you are agreeing to this principle of honouring each other through confidentiality. \n  \nDETAILS & FLOW OF OUR NIGHT\n6-8pm :: Potluck Dinner – connection & communion\n8-9pm :: Opening & Orientation – Guided Dyads & Reflections\n9-10pm :: Community Cacao Ceremony\n10-11:15pm :: Darkest Night Dance Temple\n11:15-12 :: Soundseed Medicine Journey\n12am :: BLESSINGS & CLOSE \nhosted at Sunset Labs\nbottom of Herald St behind Value Village\nrequested donation $10-$20 (includes your cacao)\n(nobody turned away for lack of funds)\nthis event is drug & alcohol free \nblessings!

He contributes to Canadas electronic music community by producing\, DJing\, promoting and teaching electronic music production. \nSergio got his start in dance music in Calgary\, Alberta. Under the moniker Piranha Piranha he collaborated with long time friend and business partner Dan Solo\, producing music and initiating the forward-thinking brand therinseout. They contributed to the growing foundation of the west coast underground scene by championing weekly parties as well as other one-offs and experimental events. Modern Math\, which started as a weekly night between 2009-2011\, was a catalyst to a particularly lively period in Calgary’s musical upbringing\, and has since morphed into a series of events\, record releases and short run prints\, curated by Dan and Sandro in collaboration.Another long-running event was Northern Lights\, which happened every Wednesday for 4 1/2 years at Calgarys premier dance spot\, The HiFi Club. The night was responsible for showcasing a deeper\, more progressive side of dance music\, and introducing taste-making local and international artists to a developing city. \nSergio continues to push his sound and production ability into new territory\, collaborating with a growing league of producers representing the international landscape. His DJ sets quite often range in flavour but mostly waver in the house and techno realm with a lean towards tracked-out\, low end sounds. His solo productions are heavily inspired by dub techno legends and loop based producers\, and range from dance floor centric tracks to deep ambient textures. His reputation as a selector and live performer have allowed him to perform alongside some of the cultures most influential characters\, as well as won him prime time bookings at festivals such as Bass Coast and Shambhala. \nSergio has stepped into new realms of creativity with a move to Toronto in early 2015. He has since participated in Red Bull Music Academys noted Bass Camp\, and continues to evolve and grow as an artist throughout various creative explorations.\n~\nsergiolevels.com\nsoundcloud.com/sergiolevels\nfacebook.com/sergiolevels\ninstagram.com/sergiolevels \nWith: \nMATSYA\nSalt Spring\n~\nsoundcloud.com/matsya\nmixcloud.com/matsya/ \nEN NOIR (Sub|Division)\nVictoria\n~\nfacebook.com/En.Noirr\nsoundcloud.com/en_noir \nARKTIC (Urban Therapy | Northern Circle)\nVictoria\n~\nfacebook.com/arkticmusic\nsoundcloud.com/arkticmusic\nmixcloud.com/arkticmusic \nAnd visuals by: \nEmp Interactions\nVictoria \nOver the past three years\, EMP Interactions has had the opportunity to develop their artistic and technological capacity into a unique fusion of traditional stage construction and digitally generated visual material.
