And GREAT music!\nAnd we’re missing our connection\, and our festivals\, and our touring superstar producers and artists! \nI reached out to some friends and asked if they would contribute a LIVE set to a Sunset benefit event\, and a bit to my surprise\, they ALL said YES – and their schedules all aligned for ONE date – JULY 17! I’m so grateful and humbled by the generosity of our amazing community – deep bows to Dakini\, Drumspyder\, Desert Dwellers\, SaQi and Mihirangi for their interest in lifting our little Victoria venue and dance tribe here. \nWe can’t call this a festival… but have you ever seen these 5 acts on the same lineup in the same evening?! This is awesome badass blessed bonkers music madness. \nThis virtual party is going to be the BEST. We are using professional livestream and audio gear to manage the broadcast\, working closely with artists to support their LIVE delivery into the event\, and we have some very fun additional elements we’ll be weaving in to make our evening together all the better. We don’t have to look far to find people\, causes and organizations who really need some extra care\, attention\, resources and support. So… asking for your help in this moment feels imperfect\, and that said\, Sunset needs some help. \nThis unusual moment has been really impactful on Sunset Labs (and venues everywhere!). With plenty of 2020 bookings in the calendar\, we went ‘all in’ on a renovation December-January… and made a number of huge changes at the venue. An end-to-end paint job… upgrades to lighting\, sound\, seating\, power\, airflow… new floors\, new ceilings\, a new mini-stage… so much. It’s the most dramatic overhaul in the venue’s history\, and since COVID landed just after we re-opened… very few people have seen it. But it’s great\, you’ll love it. We love it. \nEconomically\, Sunset Labs has long been effectively a breakeven scenario. There’s very little money in arts\, kids birthdays\, film screenings\, non-profit programs\, dance culture\, and workshops (yes there’s money in alcohol\, but we’re not interested in being licensed). We’ve never really designed or intended Sunset Labs to make a bunch of money… just to make a bunch of difference for our guests and community – a fun\, safe\, creative\, lifting community space that advances people and projects that matter\, and we feel really good about what we’ve been up to\, in these last few years in particular. \nSo\, now to THIS moment. On the heels of our big renovation & upgrades with Sunset already low on resources suddenly COVID hit. All the spring/summer bookings were cancelled and we’ve been offering future credits and returning deposits. We’ve now been months without income and as far as we and other venue owners can tell… there’s no aid in place for venues provincially or federally\, and no end in sight to serious constraints on our operations. We need to create some resources now. Why YES\, why YES you can. :)))  \nSO… we’re throwing a short-notice Canada Day Tragically Hip patio party! At the same time\, LiveVictoria.com and its 20 years of history in the community are also being turned over and entrusted to VAPPS. We are excited to be returning for our third year and showcasing a stellar lineup of the Islands’ finest bass focused selektas and producers. \nLike all theme camps\, Island Wubs is entirely volunteer driven. In order to deliver you the highest quality experience possible\, we rely on grants from the festival\, fundraising\, and the hard work and performances of all our volunteers and organizers. Oscillate is a chance for you to come dance your ass off to some serious wubs in support of our stage. This will be the last Sunset Labs event before we close the space for 6 weeks for our annual deep clean / purge / upgrades and surprises… come out and dance the evening away on the patio with us\, and then we’ll move inside and go deeeeper!  \n  \nOUR GUEST OF HONOUR: \n\n\nKaminanda’s ever-evolving sound is a playground of original Midtempo grooves\, tribal rhythms\, Psy-Dub\, and bouncy four on the floor. Using a generous dose of musical instruments and applied music theory designed to take the listener/dancer on a journey traversing landscapes reflecting a myriad of diverse influences; Focusing more and more on hypnotic elements of House\, Techno and Trance while remaining in the slower tempos. While our shadows are ever-present\, we live in an agreement reality wherein recognizing\, owning and dancing with our shadow is something we’re often left to do alone\, without support\, without witness. \nThis night we gather to spend the darkest night of the year together\, in communion\, in ceremony\, in reflection\, in reverence and in dance. As light or heavy as it may be\, come with an open heart\, and bring what shadows may persist… that we may do some deep work together to navigate the collective unspoken depths\, as we begin the long beautiful transition from the darkness… back into the light. \n  \nCOMMUNITY POTLUCK\nWe’ll open the doors at 6pm sharp and commune together until 7:30\, when we’ll begin to transition ourselves – and our space – towards the ceremony and evening. Alex’s intention at this event is to make himself available to this Cosmic Muse and hopefully make something happen that speaks to the hearts\, bodies and minds of those gathered. \n  \nAGREEMENTS & NOTES\nCOME FOR THE EVENING: To ensure the container is powerfully set for our evening\, during the opening ceremony new guests will not be welcomed into the space. SO – please arrive before 7:45pm and plan to be with us for the evening. If it’s really not possible to do so\, we will welcome latecomers 8:15pm-9:00pm and THEN WILL BE CLOSING THE DOORS. No entires will be allowed after 9pm. For the best group experience possible\, do try to come for dinner if it works – and please arrive before 7:45pm if at all possible. \nCONFIDENTIALITY: This gathering is intended to allow us to do some of our shadow work together\, in a safe container. Some of us may move through various emotional spaces\, or share personal stories not intended for the world at large.
