DESCRIPTION:PRESERVATION HAUL\nAn Arts Victoria Launch & Celebration \n\nWe’re so excited to invite you to a special event designed BY and FOR our amazing arts community!  \nYou may not yet be familiar with The Victoria Arts Promotion and Preservation Society\, but you likely know our work. “VAPPS” is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to increase access to Victoria’s artistic output; both today and for future generations. \nWe’ve now guided ArtsVictoria.ca for 6 years\, and are now taking over full ownership of the site from the City of Victoria. At the same time\, LiveVictoria.com and its 20 years of history in the community are also being turned over and entrusted to VAPPS. The two sites will together form Victoria’s most diverse\, comprehensive and dynamic cultural calendar\, arts hub and living archive – ALL completely artist-led and community owned. \n\nTHE CELEBRATION \nTo celebrate this occasion we want to gather our communities under one roof. Join us at Sunset Labs at 7pm for music\, libations\, and conversations. There will be  live music\, a short presentation about our vision\, and a DJ set by Dimitri Demers featuring some local gems.  \nAny artist or organization representative who pre-registers for the event and has a profile on the site gets a FREE drink ticket. We are excited to be returning for our third year and showcasing a stellar lineup of the Islands’ finest bass focused selektas and producers. \nLike all theme camps\, Island Wubs is entirely volunteer driven. In order to deliver you the highest quality experience possible\, we rely on grants from the festival\, fundraising\, and the hard work and performances of all our volunteers and organizers. Oscillate is a chance for you to come dance your ass off to some serious wubs in support of our stage. DESCRIPTION:Starry Starry Skies second annual ‘Original Works’ showcase will focus on all original musical theater\, written by our own creative team. You’re Single’\, ‘I Stand Accused’\, ‘Una & Mirren’\, ‘In The First Degree’\, ‘The Sirens’\, and ‘Little Bird’. As an audience member\, you get to vote and see what musical you would like to see us produce in 2021! \n‘Poof! You’re Single’  is a modern tale of dating and romance surrounding four young women trying to figure out life and love after High school\, featuring the songs ‘We Were Facebook Official’\, ‘Are We On A Break?’\, and ‘Did it Hurt?’ \n ‘I Stand Accused’ takes place in the regency era\, where a land owning family\, that operates a farm\, is uprooted when a wealthy cad comes on the scene. Featuring the songs ‘Grenholm’s Soliloquy’\, ‘Whatever Comes My Way’\, and ‘I Don’t Know the Words’. \n‘Una & Mirren’  a musical set during the Scottish rebellion of King Edward’s reign\, features the songs: ‘We Will Win Today’\, ‘Here is the Answer’\, and ‘Our Eternity’. \n‘In the First Degree’ is a private detective story set in the late 1940s as a female PI becomes involved in solving the cases of several grisly murders. Featuring the songs: ‘1st Crime Scene’\, ‘You’ll Feel Me’\, and ‘Detective Theories’. \n‘The Sirens’  is about a girl group in the 1990s making their way into stardom\, and all the pitfalls they face along the way. Featuring the songs ‘The One I Love the Most’\, ‘Superwoman’\, and ‘Going Solo’. \nThe last musical selection will be produced in March of 2020 by the company. ‘Little Bird’ is set in 1969\, as a young woman named Robin runs away from home and follows her dream of being a songwriter in London. Inside the episode\, as in the original\, the town of Sunnydale plays host to a capricious demon\, who sets about forcing the residents of the town to expose their secrets through musical theatre. Buffy Summers and her friends (Xander\, Willow\, Giles\, and the rest of the gang) must figure out a way to defeat the stylish singing and dancing demon. A loving homage to and parody of a classic TV episode\, the show runs 2 hours (including intermission) of musical theatre\, fun\, and drinks at Sunset Labs here in Victoria\, BC. To you we bid welcome\, fellow human… frail & tender & bruised from a life well-traveled… hopeful yet resigned\, empowered yet diminished\, loving yet fearful. While our shadows are ever-present\, we live in an agreement reality wherein recognizing\, owning and dancing with our shadow is something we’re often left to do alone\, without support\, without witness. \nThis night we gather to spend the darkest night of the year together\, in communion\, in ceremony\, in reflection\, in reverence and in dance. As light or heavy as it may be\, come with an open heart\, and bring what shadows may persist… that we may do some deep work together to navigate the collective unspoken depths\, as we begin the long beautiful transition from the darkness… back into the light. \n  \nCOMMUNITY POTLUCK\nWe’ll open the doors at 6pm sharp and commune together until 7:30\, when we’ll begin to transition ourselves – and our space – towards the ceremony and evening. If you’re able to do so\, please bring 1 item that will feel good to make\, feel good to eat\, and feel good in our bellies as we dance later into the evening. This will be a time not of coaching or advice\, but rather of deep reflection & LISTENING. \nWe’ll move through a series of guided explorations around our habits\, resentments\, stuckness\, wants\, relationships and incompletions. This is a safe\, sacred space for you to embody and express your whole self. \nJazmin Love is a co-founder and facilitator of Dance Temple Victoria. She has been facilitating ecstatic dance journeys for four years and is passionate about embodied movement as a means of awakening\, transformation and authentic expression. Laying down\, participants can go into a deep almost a trance-like state. Ocian guides participants into the breath\, the body\, and the mind to create a safe container for us all to work with the sound as therapy or medicine. This is a practice of witnessing and listening deeply to how your body\, both physical and energetic and your mind\, both emotional and mental\, responds to the different sounds during the session. \nAs a sound practitioner since 2010\, Ocian gracefully weaves in a plethora of modalities to create one-of-a-kind experiences\, every time. Ocian is a visionary\, an intuitive\, a spiritual teacher and coach\, using frequency and vibration to harmonize the body\, mind and soul. These sessions include Crystal Bowls\, Crystal Lyre\, Crystal didjeridu\, Zaphir and Koshi Chimes\, Rattles\, drum and others\, along with her etheric and powerful voice. As she works\, Ocian can hear\, feel and sometimes see the underlying vibrational and energetic patterns held within the body or group energy field. Drawing his name from the Sufi title for a mystic muse\, saQi creates eclectic electronica that maintains a balance between organic and synthesized sound. His live sets rock the dance floor while maintaining a grace and musical depth to engage the listener. For live performance saQi is often accompanied by the multi-instrumentalist and composer Russ Liquid as well as Taylor Aglipay on guitar and Saxophones. All three are composers and horn players for the infamous March Fourth Marching Band.\nhttp://saqimusic.com/ \nTARRAN THE TAILOR:\nThe Tailor dreams a future rhythm and he walks a future blues\, made up of a tender slices of music from all over this crazy world. He travels with a broken beatbox and a banjo and he is not afraid to use it. His legendary Live performances have been delighting\, confounding and seducing audiences for more years than he would care to admit.
