A descendant of Indigenous Mexican\, Scottish\, and German ancestors\, she immigrated to Canada in 2015 and enrolled at Royal Roads University at 35 for a Master of Arts in International and Intercultural Communication — proof\, as she puts it\, that it’s never too late to do something different. Her thesis work took her into refugee settlement across Vancouver Island\, where she co-coordinated the Vancouver Island Refugee Response Team. \nThe name Janklin came from her son’s toy frog.
