Intergenerational Resilience
We are entrepreneurs. We’re makers. We’re enterprising. We build things. We export our genius around the globe. We make music and create art that could easily be on the world stage. We are amazing and awesome. But. We don’t talk about this enough. And we tend to stick to what we know – tech or arts or retail or whathaveyou.
The point of UnExpected Conversations is to learn new things by coming together in new ways. The point is greater, better, bigger, bolder, ideas and actions. New ventures. New collaborations. New solutions. Really the point is to do things, together, in unexpected ways. Why? So that Victoria is a healthy, happy, prosperous place that’s bursting at the seams and teeming with life.
I’ve been hosting ‘pop-up committees’ in my office. I put on the coffee, gather 10 people or less for two hours or less and bat around a particular topic. In a tech pop up, someone suggested a mayor’s speakers series to highlight innovation and creativity in the tech sector. Then, the idea grew. Someone else suggested that I champion an ‘unexpected event’ that sums up everything about Victoria and its aspirations. So, I thought I’d create one. – Mayor Lisa Helps
