Pink Shirt Day Canada

At Sunset Labs, we don’t just wish to produce events with people – we want to create experiences that resonate with the hearts and minds of people around the world. So it’s easy to understand why one of our most cherished annual traditions is Pink Shirt Day Canada, the country’s foremost anti-bullying campaign. As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming broadcast on February 28, 2024, we reflect on the impact this event has had over the years and the excitement building up for another memorable edition.

A National Celebration of Kindness

Pink Shirt Day Canada is produced by WITS, a Canadian charity dedicated to nonviolence in society, safe school and community environments for kids, and providing children with the tools to respond to negativity. The event itself isn’t just a broadcast; it’s an interactive show crafted specifically for schools. Guided by the youthful energy of our teen host, Maya Kara, and the lovable Pink Shirt Day Mascot, WITSup the Walrus, the event delves into the essence of kindness, empathy, and the power of standing up against bullying.

This year, we were thrilled to welcome elementary and middle schools from every corner of Canada. The virtual space became a hub of positive energy as students connected, shared, laughed and celebrated kindness together.

Special Guests Adding Flair to the Festivities

WITS commitment to making Pink Shirt Day Canada an unforgettable experience for viewers is visible in the exceptional guests who join us each year. In 2023, we were honored to host two remarkable individuals who brought their unique flair to the event.

Peter H. Reynolds, a renowned children’s author and publisher, graced our screens with his storytelling prowess. He captivated young minds with tales of connection from his adventurous books, leaving an indelible mark on our viewers.

Gurdeep Pandher, the Yukon-based Bhangra artist and educator, added a vibrant rhythm to the event. Through his uplifting messages and energetic dance class, Gurdeep brought joy and positivity to the hearts of our young audience. WITSup the Walrus had the whole studio joining in on the Bhangra fun!

Behind the Scenes Magic

Hosting an event of this magnitude is no small feat, and our dedicated production team at Sunset Labs worked tirelessly to make it seamless. The complexity of linking schools from coast to coast to our live studio event adds a technical challenge that we relish, knowing it contributes to the broader goal of spreading positivity and building a kinder society.

Fostering Connection, Peace, and Non-Violence

More than just a broadcast, Pink Shirt Day Canada is a conduit for fostering connection, peace, and non-violence among the youth of Canada. It is a platform for students to share their kindness projects, ask questions to special guests, and engage in activities that promote empathy and understanding.

As we approach the 2024 edition, Sunset Labs is grateful to be a part of such a meaningful project and express our deep gratitude to WITS for the opportunity to host Pink Shirt Day Canada over the years! The excitement is palpable as we look forward to another year of inspiring conversations, heartfelt moments, and the joy of bringing young Canadians together for a day dedicated to kindness.
