Art of the Week: Wildflower

 
Not all art is created equal! In fact some of it requires a whole different type of artistry, and when it comes to local textile art – is there anyone who stands out more than Wildflower Tie Dye?? This piece, for example, is called “Beach Light Tapestry”.

For those unfamiliar, Wildflower Tie Dyes specializes in hand dyed clothing for the whole family. Their one-of-a-kind creations are tie dyed using the best and brightest dyes for garments that last. They hand dye all our tye dyes in small batches and pay close attention to the finished look and quality of each piece. Wildflower Tie Dye has had a successful online presence since 2002 and ships wearable art style clothing worldwide. Wildflower Tie Dye was created by Valerie Moonstar Montgomery on Gabriola Island in 2002. Tie dyeing started as a hobby for Valerie, quickly grew into a passion and now, an established online boutique and frequent Victoria market presence. Valerie says:

Tie dying allows me to express my creativity in vibrant colors. It always brings great satisfaction hearing how my clothes have become a favorite item or an interesting conversation piece, and I am overjoyed to share my art with tie dye fans all over the world. As for Wildflower, our tie dying techniques differ from the simple hippie method popularized in the sixties and seventies. We use a combination of different kinds of string and rubber bands. We carefully apply dye using droppers, paint brushes and squeeze bottles. This allows much more control over the finished product and visibly more detail. We use commercial quality fiber-reactive dyes and our advanced tie dyeing techniques leave each garment fade and bleed free. We are constantly experimenting to perfect and develop our tie dyes and believe you will be pleasantly surprised by the vibrant colors and unusual designs.
