Festival Spotlight: Rifflandia

Simply the biggest new kid on the block, and winner of Monday Magazine’s 2011 “Best Event of the Year” M Award, Rifflandia Festival has quickly become a monstrous and exceptionally diverse event!

Rifflandia No. 1 started as most Rifflandias have since, with a 10×10 tent and a handful of colourful pins. we set up in front of the Mcpherson Playhouse with a boombox and some astroturf. Victoria got its first taste of wristband connect and of the Rifflandia choose-your-own-adventure-one-wristband-for-everything mantra! Highlights from 2008 were neon yellow wristbands, Black Mountain at Alix Goolden and Z-trip at the Strathcona. Rifflandia 2008 was 3 days, 7 stages, 65 artists. 1500 people were there to witness it.

Last year, Rifflandia 4, changed it all. With the introduction of Royal Athletic Park as the flagship venue — in addition to eight evening stages — Riffliandians came to expect a whole new kind of festival experience. A multitude of amazing local food, a tented cinema, Artlandia installments and two stages made this outdoor venue a huge success. The Rifflandia magazine, Live!stock, War Child Lounge and Win!landia all returned to remain in true Rifflandia tradition. With over 110 artists performing across 9 stages, Rifflandia 4 was a true game-changer, to say the least!

This year we are joined by The Flaming Lips, Reggie Watts, Mother Mother.. and electronic acts including DJ Shadow, Morgan Page, Longwalkshortdock, Ill Gates, Mat the Alien, Rennie Foster and others!! You REALLY want to check this festival out – and bring your friends – it’s going to become the stuff legends are made of!
